Selling this great little Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Before I got this car the previous owner had slowly been restoring the car over about a 10 year period so some of the resto has been done for some time and some is more recent. When the previous owner stalled on the build the car was in storage for a couple years. When I got the car it had bad fuel and the brakes needed to be gone through so I decided it needed a complete mechanical makeover which it just got. I'll discuss the overall condition of the car from before I got it and add in all recent workings. I'll try to be as detailed as possible both good and bad. Exterior -Chrome Trim and exterior accessories are all bright and in good shape -I have poked around pretty much every part of the car inside and out and there really isn't any rust to be found. -Paint is pretty decent without any real damage or issues. On the passenger side just behind the door there appears to have been a repair to the paint and its not as shiny in a spot as the rest of the car. It's not terrible I just wanted to note it. -The doors kinda close hard but maybe that is a ghia thing. Kinda have to give it a good push for them to latch up nice and tight as they align themselves on the alignment wedges. -Not a huge fan of how the rear trunk gaps look when lid is closed. It latches nice though. -Passenger headlight bucket area has seen some repair and the bucket is not perfectly round. The Headlight Ring has a rubber seal around it to fill a gap. -I couldn't really find any rust on the car. The pans were replaced by the previous owner and it was a job well done. -The nose looks nice and straight.. doesn't look like most I've seen -Wiper Wash Squirt mech is not installed but new one is in extra parts box.. just needs installed. -Wheels are in nice shape with great tread on tires. -Glass is all solid with no cracks scratches Interior -Seats are nice without rips -Door panels are pretty nice and carpet is decent -The top is canvas and the headliner is in good shape -Rear Window Latch is worn and a wire is used to keep it latched when closed. -The dash pads are nice without cracks -Added gauges are Cylinder Head Temp, Oil Pressure and Tach. All are in good working order Electrical -All exterior lights work including Blinkers, Hazard, Headlight high and low beams, Brake and parking. Working fuel gauge and horn. Backup Light wiring is there but not hooked up. -Generator Light is on in the dash so I am not sure if the generator is charging or not. Included with the car is an extra 12V Generator and an Alternator with stand in case you need it or choose to switch to an alternator setup. -Brand New Battery with Costco Warranty Engine & Trans & Brakes -The motor that came with the car when I got it was no good so I bought a good used longblock and started from scratch. Here are some of the details -Motor was stripped to shortblock and cleaned really well. Assembly was done proper with new seals and sealant. -Cylinders were honed and new rings installed. -Heads were inspected by mechanic and cleaned up to reinstall, afterwords valves set to spec -New Pushrod Tubes / Seals -Rear Main Seal was replaced and crankshaft end play was inspected -Motor got all new hoses, intake seals and exhaust gaskets -Carburator is a pict-34 and was torn down cleaned and blown out. With assembly it got a new gasket kit installed -Gas tank was removed and cleaned out with new screen installed. Front and rear fuel lines all were replaced -The motor is a strong runner and scoots nice. -Transmission Gear Oil has been replaced and the trans shifts smoothly into all gears. Stays in all gears and no popping out. -Clutch works great without slipping -Brake Fluid was flushed with new fluid then bled and adjusted and they stop the car as should. Overall this is a really nice driver with all major mechanical issues ironed out. The car gets lots of looks and people love it as you will to. If I had to rate it I'd give it a 7 out of 10 with just a few things holding it back as discussed above. Even thought the car is not a show car I wouldn't hesitate taking it to a local show to participate. I also wouldn't be afraid to drive it.. unlike a show car.
