1961 BMW R69S Numbers Matching Garage Find This is a numbers matching BMW R69S motorcycle that was discovered in an Ohio garage about a year ago. I purchased the bike from the owners son who did not remember the bike ever not being around so I am not sure if the father was the original owner or not but it was in his possession for at least 40 years. This auction is for the motorcycle only and DOES NOT include the Enduro Bags nor the Avonairre fairing. The VIN is 655322 and has checked out with Butler Smith as the importer in Feb of 1961. The bike has the original frame tag as well as the engine and frame numbers present and matching. The bike was basically a time capsule. It was parked years ago and left alone in a garage covered, somewhat. Here is what I can tell you about the bike as I am NOT a BMW technical guy but have several and really love them. -Bike is original, never taken apart -Engine cranks over freely -Has the correct carbs -Has a 25/6 rear axle set -Transmission shifts and moves freely -Weinmann aluminum wheels in what appears to be excellent original shape. These are the deep ridge wheels -Large tank with glove box on top. Tank is in excellent usable condition. Dent free and shiny -Front fender is excellent -Rear fender is very good with a few bumps here and there. -Both fenders paint is not so good -Exhaust is scrap. I have properly removed the nuts and the nuts and threads on the heads are excellent -Bike is complete and unmolested -Headlight and hardware is complete and in good shape -Tail light is complete and in good shape -Everything else is there included what appears to be the original tool kit. Pump is there but need rebuild -The bike has been partially disassembled (pictures show the current condition) with each nut and bolt marked and bagged. Everything is there and marked. Now here's the story. I had a 1959 R50/2 and sold it many years ago. Always wanted another one to complete the collection. This one came up and I bought it with the intent of restoring it. As I learned more about the bike, I felt that it deserves a professional restoration. I recently purchased a 1959 R60 in restored condition (picture included) to complete the collection. My theory is to stick with what I do best and let someone else stick with what they do best. I felt this was an important, complete bike and deserved the dignity of a proper restoration. That said, we will see how this auction goes as the bike is welcome to stay with me and I can slowly gather the resources over time to do the proper restoration. I understand what is required to make this bike new again and have placed the reserve fairly. The auction will run its course so please don't ask for a buy it now price. Bid often and it can be yours. Remember, this is a matching R69S, kind of like finding a Hemi SuperBird (well almost) but at least a 1969 Z28 and there aren't many left let alone available. The bike is is Cleveland, OH and is available for inspection. As I stated before, I love BMWs but do not profess to know that much about the early ones. I will do all I can to answer any questions but if you're really interested, stop over and check it out. It's a great start. I've described the bike to the best of my ability and knowledge. I will help in shipping the bike however I can. It is at an industrial address so that always helps. I will not crate the bike.
