Vehicle Detail
Contemporary Classic Cobra 427 SC. Original 427FE SIDE-OILER (C9AE) cast-iron cross-bolted Authentic 4-speed Ford top-loader transmission (beefed up and bullet-proof). No donor frame, true-to-original 4" tubular frame. Daily driver reliable cobra. Drivetrain (including Engine, Tranny, Clutch, etc.) was rebuilt approx. 5k ago. Car was in shop for 6 weeks getting a make-over recently. Entire wiring system was replaced to make for a cleaner look and more reliable/safe setup. Motor was built by the most well known FE builder out there, Carroll Carter with CC Motorsports in Manassas, VA. They are best in biz on side oilers. It was bored 0.015" over. The engine was stroked and makes over 550 horses. During the build, it was outfitted with: Venolia Pistons, Crower roller cam (Duration 280/288, Lift .581/.583), Harland Sharp aluminum roller rockers, 428 crank, high volume oil pump, etc. C3AE-6090D heads, aluminum Cobra Le Mans valve covers, big 830cfm Holly carburetor with annular boosters, high-torque starter (she fires right up), Hays aluminum flywheel, Centerforce dual friction clutch, MSD ignition system (6200 module), MSD Rev. limit indicator light that is hidden on steering column, huge aluminum radiator, Tilton hydraulics, True 3 piece polished aluminum Compomotive wheels wrapped with new rubber all the way around. Willwood front calipers with 12" rotors. Fully adjustable hydraulic front/rear disc brakes. Rear discs are inboard (located near differential) 4" round tubular powdercoated chassis Jaguar XKE independent suspension and rear end with Koni shocks. This is a high dollar setup, was rebuilt prior to install, and looks and feels excellent. Front suspension is a torsion bar setup with Koni shocks. Bushings are looking great under the car and all feels super tight going down the road. Independent rear suspension really makes a incredible difference. Original Smith gauges (tach needs MSD adapter #8920 still to be more accurate under hard driving),gas cap, Engllish connolly leather seats, tail lights, English wool carpets, side pipes, steering wheel, windshield, lights, etc. Air horns, driving lights (high beam switch at left foot with indicator light on dash), flip-down reverse lights, wipers, manual switch cooling fan, cabin heater, all work. All switches replaced during recent rewire job with similar switches that now have red indicator lights when switched to on position. Headlight switch is a GM knob relay with a billet aluminum knob. GM "Flame Red", GM Code 8748, 1986 chevy, Acrylic Lacquer. Not a show paint job as it has some flaws. Local shop said it could look stunning with a wetsand and fresh clearcoat. As you can see, it still looks great in pictures and also in person. Build was finished in 1997 by original owner who was a mechanical engineer with a passion for Cobras. I'm the second owner and have loved every ride in her. 18,xxx Miles (frame and body) and about 5k on drivetrain. It has been gone through over and over again. This isn't a brand new build with lots of bugs to still sort through. This Cobra is tougher, more streetable, and more reliable than the original, while keeping its true Shelby nostalgia. Whoever buys this beauty will have the baddest car on the block and one of the most historic cars at any car show. Even people that don't care about cars will give you the thumbs up. THIS cobra, unlike most other replicas, will hold its value and appreciate. Replicas are "a dime a dozen", but not ones that have the right stuff under the hood and throughout. If you want air conditioning, a radio, and bun warmers, this isn't for you. This is a purpose-built, raw power roadster. It is titled and registered as a '66 Shelby (so you can register as antique vehicle) Very very few Cobras boast an authentic 427 Side Oiler. 351's, 302's, 428's, and 460's are most of what you will find. Even most of the 427's are center oiler or top oilers. This is the real deal. Count how many you can find nation-wide with the correct drivetrain, let alone one at this price with a fresh rebuild! It is hard to find them these days as these motors were built for the Nascar circuit. This one even has a racing pan (11qt., no baffles, rear right oil pick-up to ensure constant oil pressure while circling track). When you buy your first Shelby, you will quickly realize that the first question everyone will ask you will be "Does it have the 427!?" You can then say, "yuuuuuuuup!" Do your homework. Read up on Contemporary and its unrivaled authenticity to the original. They were even nominated #1 replica builder by Road&Track. Round tube chassis that indeed mimics the Shelby original (unlike many donor frame builds and conventional frame designs). The drivetrain also closely follows the original 427SC. Most replicas out there feel like you are driving a Mustang or a VW, simply because that's the frame, suspension, and drivetrain they utilize. If you require pictures of something I do not have, ask me and I will do my best to help you. I have a bunch of boxes of spare and random parts that I would be willing to give buyer if you can pick up within 30 days of auction end. There is approximately 2 trunk loads full of stuff. This car is a great investment, and considering what I'm willing to let it go for, you will most likely make money after years of enjoyable ownership. For me, it is time to sell this Cobra. Please Do not bid if you aren't ready to buy. If you have questions, ASK. Send me a message with detailed questions if you like. If you want to pay a mechanic to come see it, I am all for it. I have no secrets. Be sure your finances and shipping plans are in order. Buyer will be responsible for shipping vehicle or picking it up. I have used USHIP.com in the past with a corvette and they did me well. $500 deposit required within 24 hours of auction close whether you live in California or next door. Full payment must be received within 7 days of auction close. Wire transfer is preferred and I will pay for wire transfer fee as well as sign any documentation that makes you feel comfortable with me. Sorry for the poor quality and ambient noises: (had a couple things sitting in passenger seat that make a little rattle) http://youtu.be/BhPu0uQNPeY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o_GgLc9toE
