1970 Monte Carlo 396 engine -turbo 400 trans and a 12 bolt rear end Arizona body Up for sale is a 1970 Monte from Arizona. With that said the body is in very good shape. The rockers, floors and trunk as well as around the windows is very solid. This is also partly to do with the fact that the car never had a vinyl top! There is some rust behind the rear tires on both sides. The passenger side is the worst and will require a skin and more than likely an outer. The drivers side is very repairable with some sheet metal. I also found some rust in the front corner of the passenger door. The fenders look to be in good shape. Previous owner took off the driver fender and made a repair at the lower corner. It is bolted back on but not aligned. The car appears to have the original lacquer paint under the thin primer. Also I have a box of outside chrome and what I believe is new rocker molding, see pic. The engine is a 1970 396/402. The code is CKN for 330 hp. It runs very well-starts right up even when cold and holds a very strong idle. No noises or funny sounds. The carb however is an Edlebrock and has an hei dist. The engine has new oil, plugs etc. Also has a new starter and alternator. Car has new exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. Trans is a turbo 400 that seems to work fine, no burnt smell. The rear end is a 12 bolt I assume open rear end as I do not see any posi tags. The interior will need some attention. The door panels and dash are very useable. It will need carpet-headliner-seats redone-dash pad and package tray- Right now the only thing keeping this car from being driven home is a weak master cylinder and it needs a battery. The rear tires are like new but the fronts are thin. No spare tire. If you are looking to clone a 70 Chevelle SS This is the car for you. You will receive a correct 396 with the 854 block- the same pistons- and correct exhaust manifolds! The only difference between a 330 hp engine and a 350 hp engine is the carb and cam. The engine has been rebuilt at one time as the heads are 781,s. These are not correct but ar ewell known as the best flowing oval port head. You will also get disc brake set up with correct valves. Correct turbo 400. 12 bolt rear end with correct driveshaft. This drive train can be cleaned up and installed in your Chevelle as is, but I would recommend rebuilding the engine just because. It is clean inside but I am sure there is several miles on it. As well as a SS dash and harness. Then turn around and sell the body and get a good chunk of your money back! It does have the correct CKN code. 396/402 used in 1970 Chevelles and Monte Carlos 330 HP. I did not see the vin stamped on the pad. ONLY 7456 Monte Carlos were produced with the 396 engine! Combine that with the fact its Fathom Blue and never had a cloth top, one of only 10,786 car built with a 400 turbo and you got something pretty neat.
