The 1974 Cadillac "Mozelle" was built jointly by General Motors (GM) and the former Marquis Coach Company in California, United States, in a project spearheaded by the former vice president of design for GM, William Mitchell. In a daring attempt to create the world's most luxurious one-of-a-kind creation, thousands upon thousands of hours were spent in the design and engineering of the world's most unique styling endeavor ever undertaken by an automobile manufacturer. Three years after its inception, the (one-of-a-kind and only one in existence) work of automobile art, the Cadillac Mozelle, was completed. The (one-of-a-kind prototype exhibit vehicle) two-door measures twenty feet eleven and a half inches in length, seven and a half feet in width with a gross vehicle weight of 8,125 pounds, and a wheel base of 179.5 inches (fourteen foot, eleven and a half inches). The Cadillac Mozelle has been in a secure collection since its completion and has never been viewed by the general public until May of 1990, when at that time it was unveiled. Automotive collectors the world over were "Dazzled" by the Cadillac Mozelle when it became available for sale (for the first time ever) to the general public in May of 1991 at the "Spring of Detroit" Classic and Collector Car Auction, in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Bidders from Japan, the Middle East, Africa, and United States were frantically bidding to become the new owner of the (one- of-a-kind prototype) Cadillac Mozelle. The bidding closed at $2.1 million, which was the highest bid recorded at the auction. The owner of the Cadillac Mozelle would not sell the unique vehicle for any less than $3.9 Million Dollars.
