Vehicle Detail
1946 Ford Coupe "Bootlegger's Special". First model produced after WWII. Flathead V-8 (expertly overhauled by Louis Dallalio 7,000 miles ago) with dual water pumps, oil bath oil cleaner, original 6 volt system (needs replacing or converting to 12 volt), needs new fuel tank (been using a plastic racing tank in the trunk). Engine turns over, bad wiring won't fire it up. Nice interior, all original gauges, dash, steering wheel, push button start, optional Ford heater installed (water, not gas), tires hold air, front left brake needs work. The massive trunk could be used to camp in and the hidden cargo space behind the single bench seat is larger than the trunk of a compact car. The hidden space (hence the "Bootlegger's Special" moniker) is revealed by lifting the seat back from the bottom. This is the car my parents drove across Louisiana and over the Mississippi River bridge to Natchez, Mississippi in 1949 when they moved here as newlyweds from Shreveport. Driver's side of the body was recently restored after being lightly sideswiped. I've been intending to rewire, it's fun to drive, a real head turner.
