For Sale 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider #92 (w/Giulietta hood and 1300 engine) Vin/Chassis #: AR 373985 Motor - 1300: AR 00106 00876 For sale is my 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider, restored in 2009. The car is presented as a successful vintage racer having appeared last year in the Monterey Reunion and Pre Reunion (Historic’s), as well as it being street legal for rally’s or car shows. This Alfa is known by many as #92 as it has worn that number for the last 3 decades. History This Alfa was a street car until the 1980’s when it was purchased from a California Alfa shop as a ‘rust free, accident free roller’ by the well-known and respected Alfisti Keith Goring. Keith owns Alfa’s Unlimited in CT since 1975 and has had a long and successful career of building and racing Alfa’s. Keith commissioned the car with a 1300 and first raced in 1988 at the Grand Bahamas race and took a 3rd place for his efforts. He then Campaigned the Alfa up and down the east coast at Lime Rock, Watkins Glenn, Daytona, Sebring, Grand Bahamas, and more. In the early 2000’s the Alfa blew a motor and Keith’s attention turned to his son’s racing career and #92 sat for a bit before being sold to Fred Schueddekopp in WA and then sold to me in March of 2009, again as a ‘rust free, accident free, rolling racer’. It arrived as such but I was inspired by my first vintage racer and the wonderful history that came with it and I decided to take it apart, bring it to bare metal and restore the car fresh. It took a bit over a year to complete and in April of 2010 #92 started its second life as a vintage racer, this time with a 1600. It took a season to sort it out and for me to get my feet wet vintage racing. Since then #92 has raced the Northern California CSRG vintage circuit of Sears Point and Thunderhill and in 2012 it was converted back to a 1300 and fitted with a proper Giulietta hood. I have both a 1600 and a 1300 full race motor and both hoods but more about that later. In 2012 #92 was entered and accepted by the Monterey Reunion and Pre Reunion races (formerly known as the Historic’s) due to its provenance and was the only Giulietta Spider in either race. Photo Gallery’s To see photo galleries visit http://www.bridgewaymotors.com/contentpage.aspx?Id=6911 Current Condition and Configuration Drivetrain Currently the car is fitted with a 1300 motor that was built by Glenn Olivera of Berkeley and has 3 races on it. The head was recently done by Dan Marvin in Berkeley with new valves and springs. The head has one race on it. After every race all fluids are changed and the car serviced. Engine was dyno’d when built at 128hp. Details of engine build available. The suspension was set up by Glen Olivera before the last race, corner weighted, springs changed as needed. All bushing, idle arms etc. are in race condition. As I mentioned after each race we inspect and replace in advance of needing repair. All service and most assembly work done by Jim Cestarollo of the Alfaman shop. Rear end was converted to LSD by Jon Norman racing prior to this year’s race season. Along with the suspension setup, re-springing, dropping both the tank and the seat depth’s, now have the car handling its best since the restoration. Transmission is a 5 speed close ratio completely rebuilt gear box installed within the last year. Over $20,000 was invested in just the motor, close ratio box and LSD within the last year. #92 is a very competitive Alfa and runs with the front of the Alfa pack in every race. Interior Gauges are both original and custom. The custom gauge is built to replicate and match the original gauges but give you what you need. All gauges, signals, lights, etc. are functional. Flooring is all new black Wilton carpet and rubber matting. Seats – there are two sets of seats, I will describe both and they can be viewed in the picture galleries. Pricing for both are noted in options. The first set of seats are ‘Kirkey’ vintage seats with black pleated vintage covers. These are extremely comfortable and hold well. They are aluminum and lightweight and very strong. The second set of seats are also aluminum but these are from a bay area company, Vintage 31. Beautifully designed and custom covered by Franzini Bros. with soft Connolly type leather that is not only incredibly functional but is as beautiful as you will see in any race car. Body and Exterior Paint was completed as a bare metal restoration in 2010 and shows beautifully. The color is duplicated to match Blue Medio and attracts attention at the track and at shows even when around more exotic cars. The paint is not perfect as it has seen a number of races but when properly waxed shows well enough for a local show. There is no known rust or body damage other than the lower front cowling dent that can be seen only on a lift. The frame shows no sign of rust now or before nor does it appear to have ever been hit and repaired. When we stripped the car during the restoration there was an amazingly small amount of bondo found especially for 30 years of racing. Even the jack points are perfect. There was some small dime size areas of rust found in the floor pans but all was removed and Por 15 coated the entire underside and inside floors to ensure a long life of no rust. Current mirrors are Talbot style chrome racing mirrors with a center convex mirror to give terrific visibility. Optional Standard Windshield The car has always maintained the post holes for the standard windshield. Currently they are used for the side mirrors but if someone wanted to have the original windshield installed it would be an easy task. A windshield, frame and rubber are available as an option.
