1969 VW thing type 181 from Germany I purchased this when I was stationed there in 2005 and brought it back to the states the same year. A little history about this car it serviced in the German Army until around 1994 when it was sold to the private sector. In 2007 I contacted the Wolfsburg, Volkswagen Auto Museum to find out some history on my car and the certificate is included in the pictures. The car was made 20 Nov 1969 in Wolfsburg, GE. During this year there were only 2,373 made from what I have been able to find. · I have done a complete off body restoration and the Kubel is in great shape. · The interior was RHINO lined in 2007 once again I took the body of the frame to do this the frame is black and the interior is OD green, the trunk and engine compartments are also lined in green. · I had the seats reupholstered in 2007 also in the same original color. · I had the car painted the original olive in 2011. · I have to say on the passengers front fender there is a rust spot I have posted a picture of it, I want to be up front with everyone and truthful. · The soft top and frame were replaced 2012 with the heavy duty frame from the Thing Shop. · The side curtains are in good shape as well. I have bags to put then in also. · All lights and gauges work and are functional. · The Eberspecher Gas Heater works perfect. I just replaced the dual mufflers with new NOS mufflers. · The engine SR# AL009206 1584cc and transaxle are original as far as I know. · I have the hand crank yes to start the car if the battery goes dead and yes it works. · I have almost all the basic issue items BII for the Kubel I.E. shovel, hatchet, snow chains, wheel chock, gas can for spare tire, spare parts bag, Spare light bulb box, and the black out covers for the head lights and mirrors. I love this car, but with me leaving to Afghanistan every other year and moving to a new duty station every 2 to 3 years, I feel it would be better off with a more stable home. I believe I have represented this car truthfully, good luck bidding. There aren't that many of these out there in this shape and none this old I know of.
