Vehicle Detail

1960 GMC Panel Truck Up for auction is my 1960 GMC Panel. It is in nice, mostly-original condition. I bought this truck in Carson City, NV which is a very dry area so mostly rust free. The previous owner cut out a bit of rust in the lower rear quarter panels where dirt had collected and welded in a patch panel. The wood flooring in the cargo area is also solid. Here is what I have done to this truck since I've owned it: Replaced the engine. The engine in this truck is a lesser-known 'commercial' 305ci V6 engine designed and offered only by GMC. The previous owner had run the original V6 out of oil, so I replaced it with a running V6 from a 1965 truck. This engine was fairly high mileage and developed a rod knock shortly after I cleaned it up and installed it in this truck, and smokes when first starting and while riding compression downhill. Even with these infirm conditions, the engine develops quite a bit of power and runs smoothly. Replaced brake/clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder. Complete brake job with new hoses. Replaced transmission. This truck was originally a 3 speed on the column. When I bought it, someone had disabled the column shifter and put in a Hurst floor shifter which I did not like. I installed a 4 speed SM420 which I pulled form a salvaged low-mileage 1959 GMC motorhome with about 50,000 on it. The transmission shifts and works like new. I patched the hole in the transmission tunnel which was made for the Hurst shifter with a piece of license plate. Radiator was recored in 2010. Generator has been replaced with an alternator. Heater blower works, heater blows warm air, electric wipers also work. One issue with the drivers side door: I went to open the door about a month ago before I moved the truck from Carson City to Sacramento, and there was a large piece of ice in the door jamb that caused the door edge to bend out when I opened it. Otherwise, all the doors are solid and rust free. The rockers show some surface rust, but nothing deep. This truck has torsion bar front suspension and drives as smooth as glass. I have not touched the steering system, it is tight and easy to turn, even with the wide 235 series radials which are installed. I used this for years while I lived in Nevada as a service truck for my TV repair business. It was a great billboard. I finally had to retire it and upgrade to something modern between the burning oil and poor fuel mileage. You can see that I had vinyl signage installed on the rear portion... I removed the decals on one side which lifted some of the paint. Both of the rear windows are custom cut dark tinted glass, not tinted film. This was acceptable in Nevada, but keep in mind that California frowns upon glass this dark and possibly other states as well. The truck had about 77,000 on the odometer when I received it. It now shows 81,000-something which is not entirely accurate since I replaced the transmission at about 80,000 which has caused the speedometer to indicate about 10% slow. The reason being that the transmission was designed to work with a different speedometer. The battery I'm including with the truck is pretty weak; I usually need to use a jumper box when it's cold. I have a clean Nevada title for this truck, and no license plates come with it. Air cleaner has gotten lost, and is not included! I have taken a quick video of the truck running, and have made a sweep of the fenders, quarters, and rockers... please copy and paste this link into your web browser: youtube.com/watch?v=ImfFM81JQM8 Please contact me with any questions! f you are local, we can arrange for a viewing. This truck is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to remove the auction listing at any time. I have what I feel is a modest reserve price set. I want to sell this truck, not waste time! Payment and shipping: I accept cash in person, a cashier's check from your bank, direct deposit, or wire transfer. $1000 deposit is accepted within 48 hours via paypal. If you are a remote buyer, I will work with a shipping company you choose and make myself available for them. I have a flexible schedule. On Feb-16-13 at 11:57:53 PST, seller added the following information: The old TV set is not included with the truck, I just couldn't get any help to remove it before I took the pictures. On Feb-18-13 at 19:11:48 PST, seller added the following information: I've had a couple of questions about my 'mostly rust free' comment in regards to what rust there is on the truck, floorpans, etc. There are no rust problems on it. No rust in the floorpans, fenders, quarters, rockers, or anywhere else. What rust that existed at one time, in the rear quarters from dirt build up was replaced with a patch panel before it was painted. This is according the the man I bought the truck from. The truck is very dry, no surprises. On Feb-20-13 at 23:03:51 PST, seller added the following information: Since the reserve price has been met, I have removed the truck from all local listings. Buyer will also receive the title for the truck via FedEx overnight as soon as all funds have cleared.
