Vehicle Detail
1974 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser Desert Beige with Black interior Preserved Original Survivor Documented 86,000 Miles Three Owners in Arizona & California Rust-Free Body & Chassis Completely Original & Unmodified Strong Original 1F 3.9-Litre 6-Cylinder Engine Excellent Driving Condition Driving Video: http://youtu.be/wVVWwm8WIeo Walkaround Video: http://youtu.be/6DvfW2i_GKk It's as original & rust-free an FJ as we've ever seen and we’ve had several of these cool FJ40’s. If you’ve been searching for a super-clean well-preserved FJ40 then this 1974 should get you excited. It’s ready to be driven on or off-road and has no issues. Title is clear and it has current 2013 California registration, license plates, & smog certification. In preparation to offer it, we had the following list of items serviced or replaced to bring it to the standard of excellence deserving of this fine FJ40: Chassis painted black (cleaned, wire brushed and repaint entire undercarriage) Restored regional steel rims & hubcaps (5) New Monroe Off Road shocks New tie rods New battery Carburetor serviced and cleaned Tires balanced New dash pad cover New muffler & tail pipe complete New front Toyota OEM bumper Rear Toyota OEM rear bumperettes All fluids replaced New plugs, wires, tune-up service New interior dome light New front wiper blades Original Toyota AM radio installed with Toyota OEM speaker and antenna Current California Registration, License Plates, & Smog Test HISTORY: Purchased in February 1975 by Sam Smith from an Arizona Toyota dealer and then driven sparingly for 15 years. Second owner Michael McTeague from AZ bought it in May 1990 at 54K-miles and eventually shipped it to Telluride, Colorado where it remained stored in the garage due to ill health. Over 21 years he put 31K miles on the FJ40. We bought it at 85K-miles in November 2011 and brought it to San Diego where it has enjoyed a pampered life. This FJ40 has been blessed by older, meticulous owners living in dry climates which have preserved the originality of this special FJ. MECHANICAL: It's original 3.9 litre straight 6-cylinder 1F engine starts easily and happily performs at 65mph on the highway. Four-speed floor shifter runs smoothly through all the gears. Electrical items all function fine. Manual choke works great. Brakes are excellent with no fade or pulling. It’s a wonderfully reliable & well-behaved truck that’s a joy to drive. BODY: The existing Desert Beige paint looks original, but was most likely repainted 20 years ago. The 1974 model is the last year for the desirable rear lift hatch & lower barn doors which provides better visibility than the 1975+ model ambulance-style doors. When we bought it in late-2011 it had two small nickel-sized rust spots so we had them removed in 2012 by a FJ40 specialist, treated & repainted to match. In Jan 2013 we had it professionally polished & fully detailed. The overall result is a low-mileage bone-stock well-preserved early FJ40 that attracts attention where ever it drives.
