Vehicle Detail

I am selling this car because I am replacing this car with a new Mazda MX-5 R/Hardtop that I bought. I restored this car because of its low mileage to be a keeper. It has power windows, steering, brakes, mirrors, AM/FM/CD audio, and cold air conditioning. The interior is NEW two tone leather, and the convertable top is new also. It does not use oil or leak oil, and the brakes are excellent. This car is reliable and will give good service. The transmission is a 5 speed manual that delivers excellent gasoline mileage. The car runs straight as an arrow and holds the road like it is glued to it. In short it is a fun car that is a pleasure to drive. This car is ready to drive anywhere, so if you were to fly into Harlingen (SWA), you could drive the car back home. If you would prefer to have it shipped, I will help to expedite that choice. Auto Check score shows this car to be "below average," this car is SO far above average that few 2000 models could even come close to it. Everything on this car works as it should, and I think it is the best 5K offering on the web. Now the short side: This car has a rebuilt salvage title. What is a salvage title car? Salvage titles are deemed such by an insurance company, not a government agency. A salvage title car is a car that an insurance company had paid off, at a point, its value to the original owner. How does a car become salvage? There are many reasons for this. The most common is collision. I thought salvage title cars are “totaled.” “Totaled” means an economic total loss. This doesn't usually have much to do with the extent of the damage. Regardless of mileage, the older the car is the easier it would be for an insurance company to write them off. The less expensive the car is the lighter the damage would have to be for an insurance company to write it off rather then repair it. The salvage industry is huge in this country. The majority of those cars are, indeed, not worth repairing. But a lot of these cars have minor damage or none at all. What was the extent of the damage for this car? The original owner purchased the vehicle new in Washington State, and drove it to Louisiana when he was transferred there. This car was involved in a “Chain Reaction” collision in Louisiana in July2007. It was struck from behind, and pushed into a car ahead of it. The body damage was to the front as well as the rear, costly but not serious. The airbags in the car did not deploy, and the car was driven from the wreck site. The car had slightly more than 60,000 miles on it. It was being driven by the second owner. The insurance company “totaled” the car and paid the owner. The car was sold by the insurance company at auction and repaired in Louisiana. The car was purchased by the third owner who lived in McAllen, Texas. He drove the car for about three years, putting about 12,000miles on it. I purchased it from him in June 2012. I had the car repainted (original color), redid the interior in leather, added the roll bar, and addressed all minor issues with the car as I planned to keep it. The car will give some owner many miles of enjoyable use.You may buy a car with a better title, but you won't buy a better car than this. I have the CARFAX for this vehicle. This ad shows that 7 owners had the car, but only 3 put mileage on it. The others were dealers or repair shops. How common is this? The fact is that nearly all retail dealers have body shops on site. The vast majority of used cars get body work. There is nothing wrong with buying a car that has had body work done, but you should be able to buy it for less. Is this a salvage title car? It is not, at least not anymore. This car has an Original Texas title that has a “rebuilt salvage” brand. The brand is there simply to indicate the vehicle's history. Has this car been inspected? Yes. This car has been inspected by the Texas Highway Patrol. It has passed that inspection and is deemed roadworthy. No different than any other car. Under Texas law, no roadworthiness test is necessary other than salvage inspections. What about title transfer and registration? This will be no different than any other car. The initial registration will register and transfers like any other car. Title transfer will also be the same.
