Vehicle Detail

1961 Plymouth Savoy 2-door post sedan 318 V-8, Powerflite (2-speed) Push-button Automatic No Reserve Up for bid is a 1961 Plymouth Savoy. She's got the "pot-belly" 318 V-8, with the 2-speed Powerflite push-button automatic transmission. She runs, drives, and stops. I have owned her since April of last year, and see that this will not be a project I can get to soon. I have not driven her on the road, but she yard drives fine. She will need a thorough "going-through" before I would drive her on the highway. At the minimum, a carburetor cleaning and adjustment, and new brakes. The brakes work, but it looks as though she was last registered in 2001, so I would not trust the brakes as is. The body is fairly solid, she has been repainted at some point, it looks like the original paint was a light blue. The trim was removed and trim holes were filled with bond-o prior to the repaint. There is some rust on the driver rear lower quarter, as well as the front fenders at the rockers. I've owned several 1961 Plymouths, and this one is comparatively light on the body rust, the car is originally from Alabama, as near as I can tell with a quick search. The floors have been amateur patched; the trunk floor is thin with many small holes. The hood and doors are solid, the trunk has a small hole on the rear edge, where the trim had been removed, please see the photo. The windshield is cracked, as seen in the photo, all the other glass is good, and the windows roll up and down as they should. The tires are good, and I have put on '55 Plymouth dog dish hubcaps to give her that patrol car look. The engine runs really well. The dual exhaust has a great sound to it, although I'm not partial to the big pipes out the back. I had purchased an electronic ignition kit and coil through Summit Racing to install, this was going to be the first car I had converted over, but never convinced myself to actually put it in. It cost $130, and I will include this with the car, should the new owner wish to put this on. The transmission seems to shift fine, it appears to have a small leak from the pan gasket. I have installed a new gas tank, as the old one had "goo-gas" in it. The parking brake does not work, so you need a wheel chock when on a hill. She sports air shocks on the rear and rides well. The interior is rough, the seats are in dire need of recovering. I placed an Auto-Zone seat cover over the front, to prevent the foam-ies from sticking to me every time I get in and out of the car. There is no headliner. The wires hanging from under the dash are related to the stereo system, which does not work. It is a tape deck with and old amplifier in the trunk. The speedometer/odometer do not work, the temperature gauge and oil pressure light do. Overall, she is a solid car that would not take much to get her on the road. The 2-door post sedans seem to be more and more difficult to find, especially a running and driving car with the original V8. I would love to keep her, but circumstances dictate otherwise. By the way, she was named by her previous owner, her name is Clarice. If you have any questions, please let me know. I want to be as honest as possible, so I may have made her sound worse than she is, but I'd rather you be happy than surprised. I am near Macon, Georgia, in the center of the state, just off of Interstate 75. Georgia does not issue titles for cars older than 1964, so I will sell her on a bill of sale. I offer her at no reserve, so please be responsible and deliberate with your bid. I do reserve the right to end the auction early if needed. Thank you for looking, and please let me know if you need further information.
