Vehicle Detail
1959 Plymouth Savoy 2-door post sedan Flathead 6, 3 speed manual No Reserve Up for bid is "Rocky", my '59 Plymouth Savoy. She's got the flathead 6 cylinder with a 3 speed manual on the column. She runs and drives and receives plenty of attention from other motorists. I've been her care-taker since 2009. As you can see, she's a bit rough around the edges, but she has plenty of character. In 2010, I had a full rebuild on a 230 ci 6 cyl. from a '57 Plymouth, as the original 6 cyl. was locked up. During the rebuild, I replaced most components including a new clutch, carburetor, fuel/water/oil pumps, new alternator (kit to replace original generator), most were purchased from Vintage Power Wagons, a great source for these flathead engines. I also had the radiator recored, plus installed an aftermarket gauge and she'll run all day long at 175-180 degrees, no matter how hot it is outside. Plus all new brakes, including master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and new lines. Also, a new gas tank and sending unit, the gauge reads accurately. The only thing I didn't touch is the exhaust, she could use a muffler at the minimum, as it is shot. She is a bit loud, but, personally, I love the rumble. If folks don't see her at first, they'll hear her coming! Mechanically, she is good, just could use a few tinkers. One, the right front wheel will stick if you let her sit for more than two days between drives. If you drive her everyday, she usually doesn't stick. Also, when she gets to temperature, she idles a bit rough. This maybe a fuel pump issue, I have not bothered to investigate. Otherwise she is strong and driving her can't help but make you smile. No power anything, it is a hands on experience! The interior is original, save for the seat inserts have been replaced at some point in her past. The seats are useable, I split the front seat this past summer sitting on a screwdriver without looking. The original rubber floor mat is nice, except for a worn spot on the driver side. The headliner is poor, as seen in the photo. The speedometer does not work, I've never investigated to find out why. The gas gauge works, and I installed an aftermarket turn signal switch. The headlights/brake lights work fine. All the glass is good. The heater is bypassed, I didn't hook it up after the rebuild. A very simple interior. The body is moderately rusty. There is amateur body work on the lower rear quarters, but the rest of the car sports the original white paint. The top has some dents, I'm not sure how those occurred. The doors and trunk open and shut well, the trunk lock is missing, but I will include a "universal" key. (a long blade screwdriver!) The hood is rusted on the driver side at the hinge, thus the support rod to hold it open. I tried to show this in the photo. The floors are soft, I have not lifted the rubber mats to see, but they look okay from underneath. The trunk floor is rusted and has holes. I have enjoyed the patina, and never once worried about parking her in a crowded lot! I have made a video to see her in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjWwA9qa0Uw Pardon the quality of the video, I am no relation to Mr. Spielberg! If you have any questions, please let me know. I want to be as honest as possible, so I may have made her sound worse than she is, but I'd rather you be happy than surprised. She is in fair condition for her age, and has never been modified, save for the '57 engine. I am near Macon, Georgia, in the center of the state, just off of Interstate 75. Georgia does not issue titles for cars older than 1964, so I will sell her on a bill of sale, she is registered, tagged, and insured in my name, so there should be no problems. I offer her at no reserve, so please be responsible and deliberate with your bid. I do reserve the right to end the auction early if needed. Thank you for looking, and please let me know if you need further information.
