NO RESERVE! 1990 Mazda Miata Supercharged 1.6L, 5-spd transmission, LSD Jackson Racing Supercharger Koni Yellow Shock Absorbers Racing Beat Exhaust Rota 4-spoke Alloy Wheels with Falken Ziex Tires Historic Status – Eligible for cheap registration and insurance! As listed above, this auction is for a 1990 Mazda Miata. It has approximately 141,000 miles on the odometer, but I am currently driving it, so it will have a few more by the end of the auction. As you can see from the pictures, this car is in pretty good condition for the age and mileage, but it is not perfect. My opinion is that it is above average, but that is my subjective opinion. I am listing this car on behalf of my father because he is old fashioned and does not use the internet. This car belongs to his small car dealership. It has a clear title, is ready for a quick sale to the highest bidder, and you can get a 2-month temp tag to go with it at the time of pick-up if you choose. This Miata has just about all the goodies you could want in one of these cars. It is the full package. If you have owned a few of these early Miatas, as I have, you know how much fun they are to drive, how wonderful the handling is due to the light weight and 50 / 50 weight distribution, but you also know that they are lacking in power. Well, meet the Jackson Racing Supercharger Kit. I was amazed at the difference when I jumped into this car and took it for my first drive. It doesn't throw you back in the seat, or knock your socks off, but it does make a dramatic improvement to the Miata's power. It's almost like a completely different vehicle. The power comes on early and stays on, and it feels so much better when you open the throttle coming out of a turn. I don't think that I could be satisfied with a NA 1.6 or 1.8 Miata again. In addition to the supercharger, this car also has a Jackson Racing exhaust header and Racing Beat exhaust. Koni Yellow shocks have been installed front and rear. It has 15” Rota 4-spoke alloy wheels with directional, asymmetrical Falken Ziex ZE912 tires (195-50-15) that have good tread on them. The 1.6L engine runs well, with plenty of supercharged power, the 5-speed transmission shifts through all the gears without any grinding, and the LSD helps keep a good grip on the road. The brakes are strong and responsive, and the brake fluid looks like it has been flushed relatively recently. The clutch feels like it is strong and has plenty of life in it, and she handles extremely well, as a Miata should. An Alpine iDA-x303 stereo has been installed which is HD-radio ready, Satellite radio – ready and Bluetooth-ready, and can connect to an ipod or USB drive. When my dad first got the car the engine was running rough because of a vacuum leak associated with the supercharger's bypass valve. I replaced the bypass valve assembly with a new unit ordered from GoMiata, and that solved the problem. However, before identifying the bypass valve as the source of the problem, I did a compression test with a tester kit I have at home to check for a bad cylinder. The compression readings from the front cylinder to the rear cylinder were: 165 – 160 – 160 – 152. The battery was starting to die when I tested the last cylinder, so I'm not sure if that had an effect on the reading, but overall the readings seem fairly close. I also installed a new set of NGK bkr7e sparkplugs that I gapped to .030. The car is running really well now. There is still the occasional “stumble” when you get on the gas, so it may need the MAF cleaned, or some of the other connections checked for small air leaks. Also, a think that the supercharger belt needs to be tightened because every now and then it sounds like it is slipping. Other than that, the emergency brake is in need of adjustment. The exterior of the car is silver. The body and paint are in decent shape for a car of this age and mileage. There are a few dings, scratches and scrapes here and there. There are also some surface rust bubbles in the paint on the driver's A-pillar, but I have not noticed rust anywhere else, and the car looks OK underneath as far as I can tell. The convertible top does not have any holes in it, but it does look a bit “tatty,” and it has detached along the bottom of the rear window, so that will need to be fixed, or it might be better to just replace the whole top. The interior is black. I would say it is slightly above average for the age, though there is some wear and tear – the steering wheel vinyl is ripped, there is some fading on the surfaces, a lid for the center console is missing, etc. But overall the carpets and seats are in good shape and are not all ripped up and stained. The trunk looks average, but the spare tire is missing. I think that this is a pretty good car, and will make an awesome cruiser / weekend autocross warrior for someone. This Miata has an impressive list of modifications, and they appear to have been properly installed. It has pretty much every add-on you could want on one of these cars. I'm not sure what the car is worth, but I know it is worth at least what the stock 1990 miatas are selling for, so I have set the starting bid at that level. There is no reserve, so this Miata will go to the highest bidder. As I have stated, I think that this car is above average condition for a 23 year-old vehicle with 141k miles, but that is my subjective opinion. I have tried to describe the car as best as possible, and have added as many pictures as possible. This car is not perfect, it is not in showroom condition, it has imperfections consistent with its age. Feel free to arrange a time to come and view the car in person. If you choose not to do that, then you forfeit the right to complain about anything once the auction is finished. If you do not view the car before bidding, do not show up after the auction and start kicking tires and nit-picking every little imperfection. PLEASE READ: Bidders with zero or negative feedback, and overseas bidders, must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. Do not send me angry emails when you bid without contacting me, and then find that I have deleted your bids and blocked you from further bidding on the auction. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. Test drives will be accompanied. Since this car is being sold by a dealership, if on arrival for pick-up the buyer has a valid driver's license and proof of insurance for this car, a 2-month temp. tag can be supplied at an additional cost of $35. Maryland Residents: This car is not MD-state inspected. It is over 20 years old, so if the buyer is a MD resident, the car will be sold as historic. This car is owned by Chesaco Car Company, a MD car dealership, so if the buyer is a MD resident, then the State of MD requires that my dad collect a tax of 6% of the sale price. Also, for MD residents the MVA requires that the title be processed through the MVA, at a cost of $100, which will be added to the auction price. These costs are imposed on MD residents by the government - not my dad! They do not apply if the winning bidder is not a Maryland resident. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The car must be picked up within 1 week of the end of the auction.
