Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300 Diesel Sedan with the non-turbo 5 cylinder diesel engine and automatic transmission. Please read the auction description completely before bidding and/or asking questions. Vehicle may be posted for sale elsewhere and I reserve the right to end the auction early if there are no bids. No warranty is expressed or implied, sale is final. Clear title. This car is a great candidate for restoration, or it would make a great parts car. I purchased this car in February 2011 as a daily driver for my 10 mile daily commute. There are issues with the car that I have not addressed because of the minute amount of time I spend in it and my route to work being entirely on side streets. I will do my best to list all known issues as accurately as possible, but buyer beware and all sales are final. The odometer broke during the first week at 224,244 miles and when I went to remove it for repair I noticed signs of previous repair, so i left it. I have driven the car approximately 5,000 miles and I do not know the true overall mileage. Over the past few months the transmission has begun to "surge" when shifting (mostly) second to third gear. I believe it to be the vacuum component on the side of the transmission but do not guarantee that is the issue. One of the four tires I would rate as good. The headlight doors are showing some cracks. It does leak a small amount of oil and coolant. The climate control servo has never worked, so I am unaware of the state of the air conditioner. I bypassed the servo with a ball-valve to run the heater in winter. The oil dipstick is missing the handle. New battery, but there is a parasitic draw somewhere in the car; if it is not started roughly every week, the battery will drain. Valve adjustment performed last year. The windshield is cracked. Interior is in decent shape with a few holes and tears. The sunroof is not currently working. The rear passenger window is taped in place because the regulator broke. New regulator in trunk and included with sale. There is a small rust spot (pictured) near the fuel filler door. The car fell victim to a Silly String attack while I was away and it has baked to the fender and rocker panel on the driver side. New door seal, lower oil pan gasket, and window regulator included with sale. Despite this engine and chassis combination being one of the most reliable that Mercedes (or any marque) has ever produced, it is a 33 year old car and it is showing its age. I towed the car behind a moving truck last summer because I wasn't sure I could trust it, and I recommend that the buyer pick the vehicle up with a trailer. I will work (within reason) with auto transporters. It is the buyer's responsibility to arrange for vehicle pick up in a timely manner. $500 deposit due within 48 hours of the end of the auction and the balance due before vehicle is claimed and title given. Again, all sales are final and I recommend towing it home. On Jan-15-13 at 05:15:59 PST, seller added the following information: Revised Auction 1/15/2013 6:15AM MST: Added 4 pictures.
