Vehicle Detail

I am selling a 1981 Honda Accord LX with the 5speed transmission and a 1.8L CVCC engine. The car has approx 130k miles. I bought this car as a daily driver while I worked on my BMW e12 project. Unfortunately this car has become a project itself, and because I can't afford two, this project must go. The Good: Runs/drives & has good power5 speed transmission works wellStraight bodyNo rustService records dating to the early '90sFactory repair manual + Chilton manualComes with a spare set of wheelsHeat works wellNo cracks in dash The Bad: Water is leaking into the car. I have found a source at the rear driver's tail light. It appears to be leaking into the trunk compartment at the taillight, and then running into the rear driver's footwell and from there to the front driver's footwell. Because of this leak THE CARPETS ARE REMOVED FROM THE CAR, BUT INCLUDED IN THE SALE. The carpets are very simple to remove and install, with there being just two pieces, one front one rear. The carpets do not require any disassembly of the interior to install save the shifter console, which was I think four screws. Simply install new sound proofing and the carpets will clip into the sills and footwell. I have not fixed the leak because I do not want to involve myself in this project, and I would recommend the next owner verify that the interior will remain dry before installing the carpets. Because I removed the carpets at the first sign of the leak there is NO MOLD in the interior. Car developed a carburetor problem. I believe the choke is sticking. Car can be driven as is, but under certain conditions the car will begin to run poorly and the exhaust will heat up and begin to melt some of the glue holding an exhaust flex-pipe together. This does not happen all the time, but is intermittent and appears to relate to the throttle position. The problem developed when I took the slack out of the throttle cable, and both throttle plates were able to open for the first time in years. This has an emission control carb, and it is very complicated to work on. Redline makes a Weber conversion for $300 for the entire kit, and were I to keep this car, it would be a no-brainer. Because of the problem listed above, exhaust has developed a leak Windshield wipers have wear in the pivot bushings Starter just started acting up Front drivers seat shows wear Front drivers seat is bolted into a more forward position so previous old-lady owner could reach the pedals. This limits how far back you can adjust the seat, but it looks like a very simple fix to return it to stock. I would do it myself, but as I said before, I already have a project and cannot involve myself in this one. Rust repair to rear hatch has poor paint match Comments: I wish I could keep this car. It is very fun to drive. It weighs about 2100 pounds, and with the 1.8L engine is quite quick around town, with 4 wheel independent suspension and rack and pinion steering it feels like a go-cart. The fifth gear is also very tall, making for surprisingly relaxed freeway cruising (at least when it had carpets and no exhaust leak). I was able to get 28 mpg out of it in mixed driving, but I think with the carb working properly you could do better. The gentleman I bought it from in October inherited it from his mother who bought it new, so until this fall it was a one-family car. The paint is also unique. It was originally maroon, but it has aged into a very faded patina. There is no clear-coat peeling, but it is quite faded all over, like a combination of over-washing and sun fade. If I were to keep it I would definitely leave the paint alone. I think it looks good except the rear hatch. I was driving this on a daily freeway commute 4 weeks ago, but have since taken it off the road. The water in the interior really bummed me out. I have the rubber plugs pulled in the foot wells and spare tire well so water is just running through and not able to collect and cause rust, but the car should be moved into a covered location and this addressed ASAP. The carb issue is intermittent, and can be addressed by turning the car off at stoplights, and starting it back up again while keeping foot off the throttle. Car will then return to normal idle, and can be driven. This car can be driven home. If photos do not load properly, full set can be seen here On Jan-02-13 at 18:17:02 PST, seller added the following information: I feel I should be more specific regarding the ability of the car to drive long distances. The exhaust leak is right under the driver footwell and is audibly intrusive into the cabin, especially with no soundproofing and with the plugs in the footwell removed. If you are 6 ft or over, you will feel cramped until you can address the seating position. The carb issue while intermittent, is a pain. When it sticks in town it is not generally a problem to address at the next light. When it happened to me on the interstate, there were no good options. It is difficult to diagnose the "sticking" condition on the highway, and I wouldn't want to predict the consequences of running it this way for long periods if one did not happen to notice.
