Vehicle Detail
1947 Lincoln Coupe (No Name Zephyr)!!!The Zephyr name wouldn't survive World War II, but the car would. Along with the Continental coupe and cabriolet, the 1942 Zephyr returned for 1946, 1947 and 1948 pending the arrival of all-new models for 1949. Simply called Lincoln, it bore few changes. A wonderful piece of American History, this car can only be judged a success. It saved Lincoln from the ravages of the Depression while making streamlined design truly acceptable to the great mass of American buyers. It also has distinction as the only V-12 car in the medium-price field and as a design that stood the test of time remarkably well. As for performance, a properly restored Zephyr can still surprise even the most skeptical with its utter silence, silky smoothness, and relaxed cruising ability. Zephyrs seldom change hands any more, due mainly to the relatively low number of survivors and their advancing age. That said, this car is a prime candidate for your restoration project. The frame is sound, the body is straight. The original V12 engine starts itself and runs like a top. The "3-on-the-tree" transmission shifts easily. There are a few details that keep this car from show quality, however. The Columbia Overdrive will not engage due to a faulty solenoid and the radio doesn't work. It needs a paint job and some attention to a few minor dings and scratches. Some of these have minor surface rust but no holes. We have tried to show these flaws in the various photos. Parts availability for these cars has never been a serious problem, and there are Zephyr specialists scattered around the country, offering a variety of items. The exquisitely beautiful body lines of this Collectible Classic will turn heads wherever you are!My Dad rescued the car from under the Hot California Sun about 10 years ago where it sat outside at a dealership. We brought it home with every intention of doing a full restoration job. However we have realized that we simply do not have the time to devote to it. As much as we hate to sell the car, we cannot give it the time, attention, and pampering it deserves. There are currently about 3,000 Zephyr and Continental owners worldwide. And you can be one of the privileged few at a great price!
