Vehicle Detail
I have a used 84 Mercedes Benz 300TD. Car has almost 215K on the odometer. Care has also been run on veggie oil. I was using the car as a daily driver from where I live to where I work roughly 70 miles round trip. I was averaging 24 to 28 MPG. I have had the car since it had 192K on it. My father in law owned it before me but he didn't put to many miles on it. In the year and half I have owned it, I replaced the upper control arms and ball joints, rebuilt the turbo about 10K ago. Bought a used set of injectors to rebuild myself but I was able to get them rebuilt. I found a donor car locally and was able to get a good amount of interior trim pieces and I even bought some used rear suspensions parts from ebay. Car does have new tires about 3K ago, also has a complete spare set of the original Bundt 14" wheels but tires need replaced, but the car needs lower ball joints as I stopped driving it cause I noticed the inner tires was wearing. I have had the car aligned recently so this is a new development. I have replace all brake pads and new brake hardware. I replaced the stock 30 micron fuel filter with a racor fuel water separator, does have a few spare filters. I also have a Frantz oil filter bypass set up on the car. Car has also been running Rotella T6 5w-40 oil. Car will most likely need glow plugs holes reamed out and the glow plugs cleaned. Car does run, and runs good once warm, no knocking other than the good ole Mercedes diesel engine clacking away. I know I am forgetting a lot when it comes to what I have done to the car. Car will need a windshield as it has cracks on the passenger side that come toward the middle. Car has had a bond rust hole patch on the driver side behind the front tire. I didn't know about this one until I was doing the brake work and found it. Car also had a rust hole right about where the spare tire well is and it has been patched with fiberglass and what looks like miracle paint. It was done before i got the car. The big rust hole is on the passenger side in front of the rear tire and previous owner filled with expanding foam. As I was using it as a daily commuter I was not to worried about looks. I have since driven this car to Maryland and back to North Carolina and to Ohio and back. Interior is in better than most I have been able to see. Dash has multiple cracks. AC is all there, but needs work to run properly. Heat works, all 4 windows roll up and down, back drivers side bounces a bit but does go up and down. Antenna works properly. Rear defrost has the typical cracks so only a few lines work.Original color was an inbtween dark and light blue color, but it had a Maaco paint job down at some point in its life and is fading and peeling in places. I would still be driving this car but I am looking to by a house and do not need to haul this car with me. Ball joints are a must and then align it and you are good to drive. Windshield would be depending on if you need to have it inspected. I would prefer to have someone come and pick the car up and tow it away versus dealing with shipping as this time of year is busy for everyone. I will require a $500 immediate deposit at the end of auction. Starting price is my reserve so technically there is no reserve. Car would be a good candidate for a spare parts car, or a donor car unless you use it as a commuter. PayPal only for deposit, will take cash upon pick up of the car.On Dec-11-12 at 02:17:54 PST, seller added the following information: Quite a few guys asking questions if it will run and drive to various places. I am not 100% sure the ball joints are the problem. I never noticed any clunking sounds coming from that general area. It could have been a bad alignment from the alignment shop. If I find time today after work I will rotate the tires so that who ever buys the care will know the tires in the front have enough tread to get them to where they are going. I would not recommend a long haul with out at least getting an alignment done. Hopefully if it is a good shop they would be able to tell you if the ball joints are bad. On Dec-11-12 at 15:21:00 PST, seller added the following information: I was able to get the tires. They have been rotated. I tried to to do the wiggle test with the ball joints. Seemed pretty firm. May just be a bad alignment job. I did notice that the passenger side brake pad monitor cable was broke. They are fairly cheap online. DOES NOT hurt anything it just lets you know when the pads are worn down.
