Vehicle Detail
I am selling my beloved "Brown Bunny" that has been my daily driver and road trip warrior for the last 7 years. The car is still fully functioning, and I would trust it on future road trips. I have done my best to save all of the paperwork and repair history since I've owned the car. I bought it from a guy in Canada, so the odometer is read in kilometers. It's kind of a novelty, and I got used to it. When I bought the car, the engine was freshly rebuilt. I consistently drive 65-70mph on the freeway. I have both worked on the car myself (especially when I first bought it - I was doing my best to save money), and in it's later years with me, I had a vw specialist do the work on it. The exhaust pipe and driver's side front brake casing rattles a little bit, and we've tried remedying the issue, but without success. It's a minor annoyance to me, but it never kept me from driving it. The car has never been in an accident. About the mileage on the body and on the rebuild: when I got the Rabbit, it was around 38,000 km on odometer. Right now it is at 51,211 km, so I have put around 112,211 km on it since December 05'. That's about 70,100 miles since I've had it on the rebuilt, and I'm not sure exactly how many miles were driven on the rebuild before I bought it. I would guess the odometer had turned over once on the body itself pre-rebuild - maybe only once, since the body and components have been in such excellent shape. Details: 4-speed manual transmission *Entire electrical system and fuse box professionally replaced: 9/23/08. This is a serious bonus for these cars. The electrical system works great. The only thing I notice is that the dash board interior lights don't light up until the car is warmed up. *Tires are in great condition - bought brand new from America's Tire in 5/17/11, 8,800 miles ago and rotated on time - has 85,000 mile warranty *New people who drive the car have to get used to the brakes - the brake pads are in good condition, but the power assist/boost does not work - there is a leak in the vacuum system that was too costly to make it worth it for me to have someone find. One must step on the brakes very firmly - I totally got used to it, and I've been driving it around the last 2-3 years like this. Th brake fluid does not leak and the reservoir stays full. *Clean, intact interior - front upholstery seats were thoroughly washed and cleaned in the summer of 2011. *Body is in good shape for it age - a few minor rust spots and scratches. The car was newly repainted when I got it. *Rebuilt fuel-pump: 11/9/11 *Replace both tie rod assemblies: 2/3/11 *New back shocks/front struts: 1/25/11 *New Timing belt: 9/09 *All fuel lines replaced with viton hoses, so it can run biodiesel without corroding. I consistently ran B20. *Fuel filter, air filter recently replaced. *Rear wheel bearings replaced: 3/30/11 *New driver's side front axle replaced: 2/1/12 *New battery: 12/10/11 *New alternator 12/07 *Good alignment *I just got the oil changed - not burning oil or leaking to my knowledge. 10/12 *Great gas mileage. *Roof racks - I used the rack to carry a Yakima storage box on top for extra room when traveling. *Front face plate of stereo was stolen - speakers in the back work fine, but they're nothing special. *The heat works with the force that a car from 1979 was made to produce, same with the windshield wipers. :) *Windows roll up and down fine, but the side pocket windows are sealed and cannot be opened anymore. *Passenger door does not unlock from the outside, but it can be locked/unlocked from the inside. *The light for the emergency brake comes on unless it's adjusted just right, even when it's disengaged. The brake works fine though and when engaged, the light is correctly on. *When the engine is idling, the oil light flickers. It has done that since I bought the car, and it does not signal that something is wrong with the oil.
