My 2003 BMW 330i ZHP is up for sale after 8 years of dependable service. The car has been my daily driver for the time that I have owned it and many of the 130,000 miles were clocked on the suburban highway route between home and work. The car had been very reliable with no major breakdowns. This may be due to the fact that I tended to do regular maintenance and replacement of components at or before the recommended intervals. I will not remember all of the work that I’ve done over these years but they would include… · Suspension upgrades with new Koni shocks/struts, stabilizer bar ends and control arm bushings· Brakes on regular intervals. Generally I’d replace rotors with every other pad replacement. I also recently replaced brake fluids.· Cooling system was upgraded and overhauled at about 80,000 with an upgraded water pump, new hoses, belts, sensors, thermostat. · Fluids in manual transmission and differential replaced at 80,000.· Filters for fuel, air, cabin and oil always replaced ahead of schedule.· Oil calculator shows typical lifespan at 12,000 plus. I never let it go that long. Generally I’d replace it at about 7,500. Always used full synthetic oils – typically Lubro-Moly.· Fuel pump replaced at about 110,000.· Power steering pump replaced at about 100,000.· Plugs and general tune-up done at about 100,000. All the plugs looked great but I wanted to get new ones on. · Bluetooth phone connection added at about 20,000 miles. The car has never had a major breakdown of internal engine parts. My mechanic said that since there were no problems in the upper or lower engine he would not recommend any internal maintenance. Summer tires mounted on the 18” OE M-Sport rims are relatively new Z-Rated Continental Extreme Contact DWs on all 4. Winter tires mounted on their own 16” Mille Miglia alloy rims. They are Michelin snow and ice rated. I suppose that if you live in Canada you might want to replace the snows but here in the Midwest I’d run them for another year or two. This car is amazing on snow and ice. Way better than my wife’s FWD Honda! The only time you have a problem is if you start to plow snow with the M bumper. Car has the Cold Weather Package with heated seats, heated mirrors, Ski Bag/pass through, headlight washers. Car has the ZHP Performance Package including, M wheels, M Brakes, M style front end, trunk air deflector, engine tweaks for added HP and torque. A purist would pay about $500 to have the entire hood sanded and repainted. Others would spot paint the hood with touch-up paint. I leave it in your hands. Other paint is virtually flawless for a car of this age. · Interior wear of Alcantara. The cars interior surfaces are done in Alcantara, a man made suede. It’s great feeling and holds the driver in his seat very well. Unfortunately it has worn on the driver’s seat bolster and on a spot on the steering wheel.· I add a couple quarts of oil between oil changes and have done so over most of the time that I’ve owned the car. My mechanic and the dealer have said that this is not unusual for BMWs and that it’s better to not go looking for something to fix if there are no symptoms. No oil leaks. No fouled plugs. Excellent performance. I’ve had it checked several times. It hasn’t concerned me but I want to be upfront with potential buyers.
