This is a fully restored, near Concour Level, #1 Condition GTO with period correct engine (one month off build date of car) and a four-speed to boot. If you've been dreaming of GTO ownership your whole life, this is your chance to get a top-tier Goat that will show with the best at any level. Finished in gorgeous Mayfair Maize (very light yellow), this is a subtle, sophisticated GTO, one built as a gentleman's express rather than a street brawler, although it has the muscle to do that as well. In a sea of Carousel Red GTOs, this one is sure to stand out, especially with the stunning rotisserie restoration that has created a car that's far nicer than they ever were when they were new. The bodywork is simply spectacular, with laser-straight original sheet-metal and expert panel alignment, with gorgeous two-stage PPG urethane paint on top. Not one stitch of this GTO was left un-touched in the restoration. All Drive-train components including engine and transmission, complete brakes, suspension, wiring, top and (top frame stripped), paint, chrome and tires. The interior is brand new on every surface including the padded dash, door panels, seats, carpet, headliner, door rubber and window felt. And we are not talking the cheap stuff either, the highest quality materials you can source. The richness of this interior is spot on to the original materials, not that cheesy Chinese knockoff stuff. BODY & PAINT Prior to the restoration this was a very straight, rust free CA built GTO with a low 125K miles on the chassis. The body was completely stripped and media blasted to remove every inch of old paint/primer and then primered, blocked.. allowed to sit... primered and blocked two more times before the PPG Two-Stage Paint was applied. The paint is absolutely FLAT and mirror-like from every angle. Paint a car like this and expect to pay $15K - $20K for this kind of museum quality job. I have looked at thousands of cars at shows all across the Country and have restored many to a very high standard. My specialty however is survivor cars and most of my personal collection is immersed in this specialty category. Every once in a while I meet someone that buys an absolutely PERFECT survivor and immediately proceeds to restoration. On the one hand this makes me crazy, but when I see a car like this one it makes me realize why this practice exists. This car simply had to be an amazing survivor. The BODY and the way it FEELS is what we look for in these old classics and this GTO blows my mind in both categories. Perfection is not a word I throw around loosely, but I would put this body in that category. I simply cannot find a flaw in the body. It appears like it has never had any damage or reconstruction. There is zero evidence of rust repair or metal work anywhere in the body, the trunk or the undercarriage. And to drive this car is to go back in time to 1965 and drive it off the showroom on its maiden voyage. It simply has that complete LOOK and FEEL that they only had at the moment in time, when they were truly perfect. Take a close look at the body gap photos. The door gaps are precise from front to back, top to bottom; as well the hood and trunk. Peek at the closeups of the headlights and the way the chrome pieces fit around that area and how the bumper lines up so precise. Surely somewhere in its life something must have happened, but I honestly cannot find it. Again... Perfection. All the chrome has been refinished, the stainless has been buffed, and it appears that all the plastic lenses are either new or perfect NOS pieces. MOTOR The 389 cubic inch V8 under the hood creates a wonderful exhaust note thanks to the brand new stainless exhaust and mufflers. Let me just say that I am not a big fan of extremely loud exhaust. However a quiet rumble is very intoxicating... and this one fits the bill nicely... throaty and exuberant on acceleration, yet just a low grumble at idle. With the 4-barrel carburetor, it makes a healthy 335 horsepower and the most wonderful V8 sounds imaginable. The shifter feels right in my hand and silky smooth from first to fourth. I drove this car a couple of times and to be honest I had to pull myself out of it each time. I just wanted to keep driving it around, enjoying the effortless feel of a brand new real deal Muscle Car; an aesthetic sensation of the male ego that is really hard to describe. Impossible to describe to people that did not grow up in this era. A Tri-Power carb set-up is available with this car for the guy that wants to get a little more out of the motor. They will need rebuilding, but it is a complete setup that looks to be all there and in excellent shape. The pictures are attached. The detailing in the engine bay is so crisp that you want to examine every inch of it, and you'll be rewarded with a highly accurate machine that's ready to show at any level. Correct finishes, including Pontiac Turquoise on the block, chrome on the valve covers, and the air cleaner all add up to a stunning presentation. Reproduction hoses and clamps were fitted, there's new wiring throughout. It fires up with a snarl, settles into a slightly lumpy idle that lets you know this is no wheezing Tempest, and pulls with the torque that only a GTO can deliver. Impressive. The four-speed M20 Muncie is a willing and able partner, and thanks to 3.23 gears out back, this car has exceptionally long legs on the highway with nice take-off out of the hole. Easily able to cruise at hyper-legal speeds, this is one GTO ideally suited for a cross-country trip in style. Take your hands off the wheel at 80 mph and it tracks like Secretariat in the stretch run of the Kentucky Derby. And even though there is no power boost on the brakes the four wheel drums stop this Goat on a dime. I was really surprised at how strong this big car stops. It always amazes me when people make comments about these kinds of brakes, as if they are not adequate. My logic tells me they have been driving cars with old warn out brakes. When they are new and set up to spec there is more than plenty of stopping power for any occasion. I stomped on them at 70 and it braked true and straight. UNDERCARRIAGE You'll also note that the underside is as clean as the body and engine bay, and a wonderful satin black frame, as original. No liberties were taken with the suspension and brakes, which were fully rebuilt and refinished to factory specifications. A fresh stainless dual exhaust system features brand new mufflers giving this Goat that wicked little voice from beyond. There's also a fresh gas tank with new lines and hoses. It rides on a set of handsome Pontiac Rally I Wheels with correct and brand new center caps and trim rings as well as a fresh set of Mickey Thompson Redline Radials. The California Blake Plate on the back is for display purposes only and does not come with the car. However this is the type and style of tag that can be used for California buyers when you register the car under the Year Of Make Program (YOM). INTERIOR The stunning black bucket seat interior is one of the car's best features. Nobody can accuse the restorer of not attending to details, because the seat covers fit superbly, the carpets are exactly right, and fresh door panels carry correct GTO badges. But beyond the obvious is the not so obvious “little” details that take an interior from restored to a “concour” look. Things like stripping and painting the brake and clutch arms and brand new rubber pedals to the same. Likewise, stripping and sanding the dash and upper door panels to bare metal and painting it in a nice medium gloss like I remember when they adorned the showrooms of the mid 60’s. Every single detail on the interior was attended to and is EXACTLY the way it came from the factory. We were told the restorer was an expert in Pontiac restoration and it shows on every component of this build. The Top Frame was completely disassembled and restored to perfection including all new paint and rubber. The paint work on the top frame is as nice as the paint on the car. It works flawlessly and fits like a glove. Make sure you check out the close up pictures I took in this area. Okay okay, a white top on a Yellow car... I know I know... but it was in the build sheet and came from the factory that way. Me... I would have gone black, build sheet be damned. And for a couple of hundred bucks you could do the same. Then again, I live in California and the top would always be down... maybe I would just keep it white. I know a lot of people like the 66 and 67 body, but for me and likely for you if you are looking at this car, the ONE YEAR ONLY body style of the 1965 GTO is and will become the most desirable over time. The lines are classic and the 65 GTO is one of my favorite American cars of all time. Every nut and bolt, bushing, decal, and wire on this gorgeous unit was attended to and you can feel the quality of build driving this cruiser down the road. It is tight and feels fresh, like right out of the factory, as it should with this type of high-quality professional restoration by a Pontiac specialist. This PHS documented GTO is a brilliant example of what made it so popular and so intimidating on the street. With Pontiac's typical flair for combining luxury and horsepower, it's simply awesome to drive-comfortable when you're cruising, but seriously fast when you nail the throttle. The fantastic, high-quality restoration will win its share of admirers anywhere you go. If you so chose put it in the garage, buy an enclosed trailer and carry it around the Country and show it off. But if you are like me... get out and DRIVE IT for the next twenty years. For pure performance-per-dollar, and smiles per miles, this Goat is hard to beat. We took this car in trade from a very high end Collector on a $300K car and it must be sold, and while it looks every bit of a $75K car the reserve is very reasonably placed.
