Vehicle Detail
Second Owner all original 230 SL with 4-speed manual transmission (58,185 miles). This car is an excellent survivor and would be a great candidate for a complete restoration. 100 percent original and complete including soft top. Original paint still looks great (good gloss). Car has not been driven for the last two years. Mercedes was purchased new in Cleveland Ohio by original owner (whose family is known to current owner, a Cleveland native) where it was driven only during the summer months. Present owner bought the car in 1997 when it had 53,165 miles on the odometer. Former owner drove the car from Cleveland and delivered it to Chicago area. Present owner drove the car during summer and fall months only (approximately 300 miles per year). Last driven regularly 15-20 miles during the summer of 2010. At that time the car started immediately after sitting all winter. Car currently needs work to be road worthy. Known problems are discussed below. In 2010 current owner’s son- in-law who is a vintage cars enthusiast drove the car and described the car at that time as follows: *Car started immediately and idled without any problems *Didn’t blow any smoke *New clutch less with less than 500 miles use *Transmission shifted well (Desirable and rare 4 speed manual) Known issues in 2010 *Dent of right fender (see photos) *Scratch on left side (see photo) *Leaks oil at rear main seal *Compression is low but even on all cylinders. (approx. 110- 120 psi) *Power steering leaks *Needs king pin joints and subframe bushing kit * light surface rust in trunk as shown in photo. Very small patch of rust underneath car on right in vehicle center. Shock mounts appear to be sound *NO known significant subframe or body rust. This car has never been driven in the winter months and has always been garaged. TERMS AND CONDITIONS* Car is being SOLD-AS-IS. No refunds or exchanges.* Information provided is to the best knowledge of the Seller but IS NOT Guaranteed. * All transportation arrangements and cost are the sole responsibility of the Buyer.* Car must be picked up within 2 weeks of close of Auction. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE On Dec-01-12 at 13:21:47 PST, seller added the following information: NEW INFORMATION (PLEASE READ!!) Today (12/1/2012) the car was inspected by a Chicago area prospective buyer who carefully examined the car and stated that "the car has been repainted- a good job". According to the prospective buyer " the hood underside should be black but blue." He also noted that the trunk underside is "'the original black". He (prospective buyer) also found two small dents on the right front fender that we were not aware of. If in fact the car was repainted we were not told this at time of purchase. No body or paint work has been done by the current owner. On Dec-01-12 at 13:45:24 PST, seller added the following information: ONE ADDITIONAL CONDITION NOTE: Potential local bidder (same as above) also pointed out that there was small repair work around one head lamp and om the trunk lid inside that the 230 badge was removed once, presumably to do paint work. IF any work was dine by first owner and was not disclosed when we purchased the car. He also found rust in one small location under the the drivers seat at a seam. Soft Top has a a few small rips and probably needs to be replaced. THERE IS NO HARD TOP WITH THIS CAR On Dec-01-12 at 14:37:37 PST, seller added the following information: ********************************************************************* Please excuse the typos from earlier.
