Vehicle Detail
Hello everyone and thanks for viewing my listing. This 1970 Ford F-100 Sport Custom is a true barn find. It has been in my area all of its life and was always kept inside the old barn at night. It was ordered by Charles Moffitt when purchased new in Ripley, MS which is about 30 miles from me. I bought it from the original owners grand daughter. This truck was passed down through the family and the grand daughter, nor her husband, were interested in keeping the truck. It has all original body panels and shows no signs of ever being in an accident. It is actually quiet a rare truck these days. It is factory two tone green. P2 is the paint code which is Boxwood Green/New Lime Green. This was a fairly rare color combo and on top of that, it's a real factory 302 truck paired with a factory automatic transmission and factory hang on Ford air conditioning (which works great). I was told that the drivetrain is all original and it still seems to be in great shape. On top of all of that, they even kept the original documentation. The original owner's son kept up with its oil changes when it was passed to him from 1992-2001. It had only 70k miles in 1992. Its showing just a little over 105k now. It drives, shifts, and brakes like it should and is actually a great driver. Some of the paint even seems to be original. The previous owner said that her grand father decided that it was too much green, so he painted the top white several years ago. He did not do a good job, because it has already turned chalky. Below is the VIN and trim information found on the drivers side door. F10GLJ15334 115 P2 F103 F 4 G 17 04500 148 4000 63 Here is a brief decode of the codes: 1st line VIN: F10GLJ15334 F10 - F100 2 wheel drive G - Engine Code for a 302 CID V8 L - Michigan Truck Plant code J15334- Built in May of 1970 with production number 15334 2nd line 115- Wheel Base Length (short wheel base) P2 - Boxwood Green/New Lime Green Color Combination F103 - 4500 Gross Vehicle Weight F - Med. These are very important for a daily driver. When I bought the truck, it had been sitting for a long time without being started. I took it to a good friend of mine who is an excellent Ford mechanic. He checked everything out, replaced a couple of wheel cylinders, reworked all the brakes, did a full tune up, changed the oil, changed the transfluid, performed a coolant flush, and totally serviced the a/c system. I spent about $600 getting her nicely tuned up. I was expecting to drive and enjoy the truck, but it really needs to go to someone who will restore it. It is too nice of a truck to be driving around without nice paint. I'll give a brief description of its condition as I see it. Exterior The body of this truck is in excellent condition for its age. Yes it needs paint, but body work will be minimal and nearly all the rust spots showing up are merely surface rust. The fenders are in great shape even at the bottom, the hood is in superb condition even around the bottom side lip. The doors look fantastic and are solid at the bottoms and on the inside. On the passenger's side door, there is some paint missing near the middle of the door. In the pictures, it looks like a rust spot, but it isnt. The door jambs and rockers look excellent. The cab is in great shape with only minor surface rust in a few random spots which can be seen in the pictures. The bedsides are in great condition with regard to a little bit of surface rust showing up just under the body line above the side molding. Again, nothing major. The bedsides are really nice. The tailgate is nice and isnt rusty but does have a few dings on it. These dings are easily repairable and can be seen in the pictures. The inside bed bottom is nice, but is showing surface rust from front to back. There is some pitting in spots too. All in all, everything is easily usable and no panels would have to be replaced if you desided to totally restore it. Interior The interior is basically all original except for an added trailer brake. As you can see, the dash pad is very rough and cracked. The bench seat is tattered and severely worn on the drivers side. The passenger's side looks great. A seat cover and a dash pad would go a long way to making the interior presentable. The gauges all look great but the clear plastic covering them is very cloudy. There is a small spot of rust in the drivers side floor board that can be seen in the pictures. It is small, but you can see pin holes so it would need probably a 2" by 2" spot welded in there to make it perfect. Underneath The underbody on this truck is in superb condition for its age. There is a lot of surface rust, a little pitting, but no noticable soft spots. Upon close inspection, this underbody looks excellent. You could do nothing to the underbody and enjoy the truck like it is, or you could pull it off the frame to totally restore it. It is nice like it is and would be fine for a good driver. There is a lot of undercoating from the factory that has turned to a brown flakey type paste. Please do not confuse this with rust because it is not. This truck is extremely solid underneath. The Engine/Transmission/Rearend The engine appears to have never been out of the truck and the original owner's family said that Mr. Moffitt was very serious about keeping the engine in good working order. They told us that it has never been removed or rebuilt. The engine starts with ease and doesnt miss. There are no strange rattles, knocks, or noises. The transmission was serviced regularly and shifts great just as it should. There are no signs of it being taken out and there was a thick layer of grease caked up on it before I pressure washed it. Now there is a smaller layer of grease on it. The grease had hardened and one wash with degreaser didn't take it all the way off. The rearend looks good and looks to be original as well. Other than a few leaks, everything looks great underneath. The guys that helped me clean it up did black out some of it underneath, so it would look better as a driver. Documentation I was given some very important documentation after I purchased the truck. The original owner kept it in a little folder that was falling apart. This Sport Custom has its original 5/50 powertrain warranty card showing the original owners name, info, and the trucks info. It is dated 05-25-70. It also has its original operators manual, warranty facts booklet, and a 1970 model warranty provisions sheet. Its amazing that all this paperwork lasted all of these years. As I mentioned, I was hoping to drive and enjoy the truck a little more than what I have. I just really dont have much of a use for it. I dont have the time to restore it and I believe that this truck is very worthy of being made like new again. It is one of the nicest short bed stylesides I have ever seen in its original condition. I believe that it will make someone very happy. Please bid to own this awesome 70 F100 Sport Custom. I know you'll be pleased with it. The buyer is responsible for pickup. I'll be glad to hold the truck until it is picked up. It will be safe just as it always has, but it must be paid for in a timely manner. I would like a $500 non refundable deposit within 48 hours of the auctions close through paypal or a cashiers check overnighted and full payment within a week. I accept cashiers checked as long as I can verify them, bank wire transfers, and of course, cash. Please ask any questions prior to bidding on the truck and you are welcome to come by to view it in person. I just ask that you let me know before you drive over, so I can make plans to show it to you. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have through eBay or you can give me a call at 662-416-0900. My name is Matt and I'll be glad to help with any questions or advice. Thanks very much in advance. Good luck and God bless. On Oct-26-12 at 08:34:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi everyone. I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the interest. I believe this is an excellent truck and I know the winning bidder will be happy with it. I just want to give a quick update to include a couple of things I left out of the listing on accident. 1st. I do have the clean/clear Mississippi title in hand. It is in my personal name and I am the second owner. I used the original title to title it in my personal name. 2nd. I forgot to mention that the windshield has two or three rock pecks that are quiet large. One is quarter sized and another is nickel sized. The windshield would need to be replaced if you were doing a restoration. The rear view mirror is also discolored and is hard to see behind you. 3rd. I have noticed that the gas gauge and temp gauge doesnt work. I filled it up with gas and it only moved to the 1/4 - 1/2 mark. The temp gauge doesnt seem to be working because it stays on cold, but it isnt running hot. The coolant system was just serviced and it doesnt leak. It doesnt boil or leave any weird smells either. This truck has never ran hot on me. It is a great truck that drives great. 4th. The truck is sold as is with no warranty obviously. I have had a few people ask if it would make it back on a long trip if they flew in to drive it back. Im quiet confident that it would make it alright but this is totally at your own risk. This is an old truck that hasnt been restored. It seems great now but anything could happen on a long trip. Thanks again everyone and if you have any more questions, please feel free to call me. -Matt
