August 1956 Deluxe Microbus Fresh from storage a 1956 samba or 23 window bus. This was my dream bus back in the 1990s when I bought it. A very correct and desirable bus with new rubber,sunroof,brakes and headliner. A west coast bus that is a genuine 23 window,never fell down a mountain,never rusted to bits and recreated,not a fake 23 window but a bonafied real one. It has never had any panels replaced except for the floors,rockers,outriggers,top hats and bellypans. It has never had or needed any roof or window rot repair. It came from the factory with several rare accessories and they are still intact. Steering lock,genuine vw mud flaps, and ambulance step. The safaris were added later and are the correct early era versions. It also has the very rare motorola radio with the vw knob kit. A speaker was mounted most likely by the dealer in the spare tire well and this bus still has the era correct speaker grill mounted. Before the headliner was installed 2 modern speakers were mounted in the factory rear roof speaker mounts and new speaker wire ran through the roof gutter exiting the drivers "A" pillar. The drivetrain is stock 36 horse power and correct split case transaxle both in good working order. This is the only early 23 window that I know of with the correct color of deluxe trim insert. Every other bus I have ever seen has the off the shelf wolfsburg west "red" insert trim. The original was a more burgundy than the bright red that is currently available. A Stewart warner gas heater was installed by the dealer and is still present but not hooked up. Very rare foglights were added both early 1950s Bosch and Hella early script glass. Commonly many modern restorers will mount matched sets of fog lights but if you research early photographs of buses and porsches with foglights you will find matched sets were not actually very common. There are also original EMPI footsteps mounted. I dont think there are any parts missing anywhere,even the hardware is original throughout. This is a great bus just as is but I could understand the desire to do a full blown restoration. I have always preferred the worn look over perfect restoration myself and this was a bus I had always meant to keep so it was built this way. Instead of slathering it all up and over restoring the body I chose to let the finish stay original and wear its minor dings with pride. Something kind of interesting about the non wolfsburg 56 and 57 deluxes is that there are very few in the world. Of the 55-58 deluxe buses there are more 55 deluxes in the world left than all the other years. Not a huge deal but a 56 or 57 is a less seen vintage year while 55 and 58 seem to be in abundance comparibly. A clean title is present and we ship cars all over the world.
