Vehicle Detail

1965 Chevrolet C20 2WD stepside longbed VIN: C254Z131470 Original 292 inline 6 cylinder, original 4-speed manual I bought this about a year ago from a friend of mine who got himself into financial trouble. He bought it in 2004 and used it as a weekend runner. He drove it regularly. I was going to restore the mechanical and leave the body alone because the patina is 47 years of Texas weather. It was in running/driving condition when I bought it – almost exactly the same condition it is in now. I found an 8-lug 4.10 rear end to replace the original 4.56; it’s installed in the truck. I also found a set of front control arms with brake disks for the brake rotor conversion. I have those and they’ll go with the truck, but they are not installed (see pics). Runs and drives, very original, very cool (to me, anyways). The truck has coil-spring suspension front and rear, so the ride is much nicer than the leaf spring truck setups. The 4-speed manual has a granny first, and it shifts well. The 292 has never been opened to my knowledge, and it runs and idles great. Starts first try – even after sitting for 30 days or so. I had to cut the exhaust off to put on the new rear end, so the engine makes quite a bit of racket. See video below. So it’s a very original, running and driving, needs some immediate things, but not much to make it a driver. So here’s the list of immediate needs: 1. Brakes: The fronts work but the rears aren’t hooked up. Regardless, new shoes/drums/cylinders would be a requirement for safety. The truck will come with the front rotors for converting, so you can use those if you’d like. 2. Tires: The tires on it are crap. 3. Windows: The front window has some rather severe scratches from the wiper blades. The driver’s window is a non-mounted Plexiglas piece. It stays up when the truck stays still. Yes, I got it that way. 4. Fluids: Please change them all. Time’s up. 5. Shocks: Needs shocks on the rear – there aren’t any! And yes, the fronts could stand to be replaced. If you love using gauges, you might want to get the fuel gauge working. After those items are rectified, it’s a running, driving truck. And being a C20 stepside longbed, quite a rare one at that. Why sell? Because I came to realization that if I’m going to put a pile of money and time into an old Chevy project, then I’d rather put it into something I really love and my family can use – so I bought a 1971 3-door 4x4 Suburban. It rocks. It needs work too, so I’m not going to get into two old Chevy projects. Rust is quite minimal; look at the pics. The only rust-through is in the cab footwells at the outermost corners. Clear Texas title; truck in Brenham, Texas - about an hour outside of Houston. Nice honest truck. Be sure to check out the video after the pictures – it shows the current condition of the bed.
