Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a very rare European 500 SEC AMG Coupe. These cars are highly prized by Mercedes collectors. Back in the day, the SEC Coupe was the top of the Mercedes range. In order to have an upgraded AMG version, one had to first buy a new Mercedes, then bring it to an authorized AMG dealer/installer (back then, AMG was a separate tuning firm prior to being bought by Mercedes Benz A.G.) for very expensive AMG upgrades. These upgrades were available a la cart, so the buyer could do as little or as much as his wallet would allow, ranging from a few interior upgrades to an all out engine, drivetrain, suspension, and aerodynamic kit conversion, costing almost as much as the initial purchase price of the car. This particular example is outfitted with the staggered 8x16, 9x16 Penta wheels and lowered suspension, full aero kit, AMG leather steering wheel, and 300 KPH AMG speedometer. One had to purchase any three upgrades in order to get the trunk badge, which this car has. It also has the very rare trip computer option as well. The European cars were, and are, more desireable than their contemporary USA counterparts as they were much more powerful due to lack of catalytic converters, had much more aesthetically pleasing bumpers, and far better flush mounted glass lens headlights than the substandard U.S. DOT required lamps of the time. This Anthracite Grey Metallic with grey leather interior car is in exceptionally good condition for being a 27 year old survivor car. I've owned it since 1996 and have kept up with the required maintenance issues, especially the timing chain and tensioner/guide replacement, valve guides, steering box and most of front suspension rebuilt. Much more has been done but space precludes listing all here. Suffice it to say I have service records going back to 1988. A/C is all there but needs an R-12 recharge (never converted to 134a). What it mainly needs is an interior freshening; headliner replacement (common issue on W126 coupes), dash has some cracks due to age/ UV exposure (common issue on old MBs), sun damage on rear parcel shelf (again, common issue on W126 coupes) and some missing wood trim around glove box. Original paint is in very good condition save one quarter sized spot on the hood where clear coat has peeled, and some clear coat peeling on top of right fender. NO RUST anywhere - this has been a Georgia car since at least 1988. With a little work, mainly interior, this car could be a show winner. I just don't have the time or inclination to finish it out as I have other more pressing projects to complete. I am not a car dealer, and car is 27 years old and being sold AS IS, WHERE IS, NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND GIVEN, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. $500 deposit required within 24 hours of winning bid, receipt of balance required within 5 business days. Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges. Please feel free to ask any questions. NOTE: the VIN# above is for my USA spec 300 SD. It is not correct for the SEC as Ebay will not take european VIN#On Oct-25-12 at 11:33:40 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: CAR HAS BEEN LISTED FOR SALE LOCALLY PRIOR TO AUCTION AND SELLER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO END AUCTION EARLY IF VEHICLE IS SOLD LOCALLY BEFORE AUCTION ENDS.
