Customized 1980 Firebird Trans Am with a 1970 front end and built Pontiac 455 This is a no-reserve auction. If it gets one bid, it’s going to a new home. Thanks for looking! Added 10/25 As promised, I added a link below to a video walkaround of the vehicle. Tried to show some of the imperfections but at the same time show how nice the car is. Regarding the rear end ratio...I was totally shocked to find out it is a 2.41 posi unit! I was told it was a 3.08 posi when I bought it. Makes sense why it get's such good mileage and is barely idling at 55MPH! I can only imagine what this car would run like with a higher gear...oh well, maybe the next owner will find out. The Short Story A 1980 Firebird with a 1970 front end, a totally customized interior, a totally rebuilt Pontiac 455. Chrome Wheels and performance tires. Medium blue metallic PPG base and clear paintjob and Phoenix graphics. Looks great, sounds great, gets attention everywhere it goes. I built this car to my tastes, for me and I tried to do everything correctly. I will be sorry to see it go, but I don’t have time to enjoy it. I hope somebody sees what I see, a beautiful /unique car.The links below are to a short test drive and the sound of the Exhaust and a new video posting of a car walkaround with me. The Long Story I bought this car in 2005. It had a 301 engine, a hardtop and was in pretty good condition. I drove it home and proceeded to remove all of the interior, the front subframe and pretty well everything else. I found an unmolested Pontiac 455 from a 1970 GTO and sent it off to be totally rebuilt. I requested a streetable engine that was very durable, but had a slight lope at idle. I requested a engine that was producing 400+HP. I then got to work on the subframe, first sandblasting it then painting it, then putting all Moog front end components in . A Global West control arm was installed to improve handling. Solid subframe connectors were installed. Slotted brake rotors were installed. Global West lowering springs were installed. The front fenders were sent off and new sheetmetal was welded in at the troublesome lower sections. A complete 1970 OEM front end was purchased as well as a metal front valance panel, an OEM hood and Shaker. Custom brackets were installed in the front fenders to ensure the front end fits tight against the fenders. Billet hood pins were installed. A 1981 tailight with bird in the middle was purchased as well as an earlier style rear spoiler. The interior floorboards were painted and noise cancelling pads were installed. New carpet was purchased and installed. New floormats were purchased. A Hurst Dual gate was purchased and installed. New interior pieces were purchased as needed. A custom leather steering wheel cover was installed. A modern rearview mirror with reading lights was installed. A dash overlay was installed and an OEM turned aluminum dash was fitted with new gauges. Year One Bandit edition door panels with turned aluminum inserts were installed along with new hinges, sill plates and weatherstripping. A very rare Car and Customs (C&C) T-Top along with a donor roof was purchased and after reverse engineering it’s installation the T-Top was installed. All new weatherstripping for the T-Tops was found (no easy task). I can tell you that this car is stronger than a coupe with the steel backbone of this T-Top. I spared no time to make sure it was installed correctly. New front seats with custom brackets were installed along with 4 point harnesses. A Pioneer stereo system with matching Pioneer speakers was installed. Panther wheels and Hankook tires were purchased. The AC “suitcase” was replaced with a correct blockoff plate. The engine was installed along with a chrome alternator, a high torque mini starter, a transmission cooler, chrome valve covers, MSD wires, a MSD6AL ignition module along with a billet distributor. A new high performance mini brake booster was installed along with a new distribution block. All new brake lines and fuel lines were installed. A Torker manifold along with a 850CFM Edelbrock Performer carb was installed. A custom shaker base was fabricated to give the shaker the proper height and support. A TCI TH350 was installed. A GM positraction rear end was installed after being cleaned and inspected along with coil over assisted shocks. Headers feeding into a Flowmaster 77 exhaust system and exiting via chrome splitters was installed. The engine was correctly broken in and the oil was changed after 15 minutes of run time, then again after an hour of run time. A thermostatically controlled dual fan cooling shroud from a newer Firebird keeps the engine very cool, even in the hottest weather. The car went to the body shop where the lower rear fenders were repaired and some bad body work removed and redone. The car was then painted with a PPG basecoat/clearcoat. The graphics were then installed. I tested the fan, it works. The right gate on the shifter is not functioning. The left side works fine. This is not a show car. It has scratches and some minor imperfections.
