Vehicle Detail
Auction is for the Holy Grail of AMC muscle cars - the 1969 AMC AMX, 390, close ratio T10 4 speed, in Big Bad Green. Only 284 1969 AMXs came in Big Bad Green; some were equipped with the 290 or 343 V8 and/or auto trans. This is one of the few Big Bad Green 69's with the 390 and close ratio 4 speed. I'd like to keep the car, but I just bought another project and this one got booted out of the garage. Instead of keeping it outside, I've decided to sell it. The car comes with a LOT of AMC parts - most for this car, but also has some nice parts for other AMCs that you can sell to recoup some of your expenditure. Some of the parts included - - correct 806 casting 390 engine block (not pictured; getting hot tanked at the machine shop), correct intake manifold, later dogleg port heads (not correct but fit and flow better), correct BR 266 coil, extra OEM coil, correct '69 390 specific distributor, spare 343 distributor, correct 69 iron intake manifold, spare Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, 390 specific chrome valve covers (nice enough for a driver), front cover, pair of original starters, original 390 air cleaner with decal, correct 7 blade fan and spacer, pair of fuel pumps, two original alternators (one with alternator brackets), set of AMC 360 connecting rods, pair of spare hood latches, pair of headers (dogleg port), pair of free flow exhaust manifolds (dogleg port), original voltage regulator, original close ratio T-10 4 speed, original driveshaft with hard to find T10 yoke, original shifter and linkage, spare shifter and linkage, clutch linkage, z bar, two block plates for T10, T10 crossmember, spare crossmember, box of M12 auto transmission parts (valve body, etc), incomplete rebuild kit for an M12 auto transmission, spare 68-70 AMX rear (disassembled, open diff, has axles), 3.54 gears for the rear end, extra AMC 20 rear housing (super clean, blasted and painted from 71 Javelin), rear drum brakes from an AMC 20 rear, original and mint 69 AM radio with knobs, spare bumper brackets, spare 69 AMX hood (not perfect, but can be used), pair of spare rockers (inner and outer) cut from a California car, etc. I'll even throw in a set of 4 Pacer X, Gremlin, or Hornet factory aluminum 14" wheels (not pictured) and a Holley 4bbl carb that came off a running motor a few months ago (not pictured). Not listed are boxes and boxes of small parts - many electrical - that came from a parts hoard that I picked up a few months ago. Also not listed are the plastic bags (labeled with application) of nuts, bolts, and fasteners. This is a few thousand $ in parts, many of it extra stuff that you can sell to recoup some of your investment. Significant parts you are missing - 390 crank & rods, flywheel, oil pan - none of which are terribly expensive or difficult to find. The VIN is A9M397X227XXX. It decodes as AMC (A); 1969 (9); 4 sp manual (M); AMX (3); 2 door hardtop (9); 7 (AMX); 390 (X). 2 is the plant of manufacture and 227XXX is the production sequence number. The original door tag is still attached; see pictures. This is documentation of the Big Bad Green paint. You can see remants of the Go Pack stripes on the cowl. The car is equipped with power steering, power disk brakes, and a 3.15 Twin Grip rear, so it appears to be an original Go Pack car. The car was originally equipped with Saddle Leather interior (see door tag for verification) but someone swapped in a black dash and door panels. The gauge cluster cover and the steering column are still Saddle. The interior is not in great condition; I would plan to replace much of what you see. The seats are original 69 AMX seats and do not appear to have been used since they were recovered, but the covers are not 100% correct. The windows are off the tracks; not uncommon for AMCs of this vintage and not a very difficult fix. The body will need some work - - just like most AMXs, it will need lower quarter patches installed (available via aftermarket). The hood is solid, but crunched somewhat in the front (not a difficult fix). The car comes with a spare hood that also has some damage, but the skin should be useable (the inner structure of the spare hood has rust issues). The inner rockers are rusted, but the car comes with a complete inner/outer rocker for each side that was cut from a California car. The fender troughs appear to be rusted; not uncommon and not a difficult fix. The 4 speed hump is present and has not been hacked at all. The trunk will need a patch; rusted through in one spot. The floors are rusted through behind the seats (another common place to find rust on these cars), but floor pans and patches are available. The deck lid is very nice. The windshield is cracked, but you can buy a new replacement for about $200. Georgia does not require titles on cars of this vintage, so it is sold with a bill of sale. $200 due within 72 hours of auction close; PayPal is fine. Balance due within 7 days of auction close - cash, money order, or wire transfer. Please ask any questions and I will do my best to answer. You are also welcome to come see the car in person.
