This OPEL GT is in the exact condition as described by the photos. It is not assembled a this time! Here is a project I started over 20 years ago to build one of the nicest Opel GT show cars. I was showing this little beauty in San Diego in the 80’s. I have owned this car for almost 28 years. Ever since I have owned this car it has never been wrecked, hail, abuse, modified, etc. It has been in a garage every day for 28 years except when driven only on nice days. It was never driven in any weather. In fact, I never used the wiper arms. The car went down in 1992 for a major restoration. Before I could finish the car, I moved to Wichita, KS. The car and all the components went in the garage. The car was stored under a cover for almost 20 years. It does not have the engine or transmission installed yet. I will list below the following detailed condition of the car. EXTERIOR – Paint is very shiny red but not show quality. Body is very straight and has a few suspect areas of prior rust issues. My intention was to do a rotisserie restoration. Rear bumpers are perfect, front bumper is nice from a distance plating is pitted. Included is a really nice cotton day cover that protected this beauty for 25 years in the garage. SUSPENSION – The entire front suspension cross member removed, disassembled, blasted, powder coated and reassembled with new polyurethane bushings. Even the engine cross member was blasted and powder coated. Notice the front end is up high in the pics because the engine, trans, radiator, etc are not installed. GLASS– Very good to excellent condition. The rubber peripheral seals are almost perfect. WHEELS/TIRES – The Eagle ST radials are looking like brand new with little wear. Wheels blasted and repainted with new chrome lugs. ENGINE – The entire engine was sent out for remachining. The intake and exhaust valves were replaced with those from a small block Chevy. The block was bored to 2.0 L with Mahle high compression pistons. At the time, I had the only set of those pistons in the US. The head is assembled but the entire assembly needs cleaned and assembled. The valve cover was polished to a mirror finish. All new gaskets, water pump, seals, etc. TRANSMISSION – This care has an automatic transmission which is a little rare for the GT. The transmission was rebuilt but never installed or operated. UNDER THE HOOD - Everything stripped out. The engine bay was cleaned and repainted. A lot of components were stripped and repainted. Some parts were replated with zinc chromate namely the throttle linkage, hood prop and hood latch assembly. INTERIOR- The seats need new covering and carpet is really bad. Dash is OK with two hairline cracks. Door side panels really good as well is the headliner. Rear deck area is really nice. EXHAUST- Rear muffler is the Monza 4 tip and in nice shape. There is a header for the main collector which is not stock. The main emphasis of this restoration was not to modify anything. If you notice there is not a laundry list of modifications or improvements. This car was intended to be a concours restoration. The engine modifications were under the skin and are not visible after assembly. I spent a ton of time and $ to get this car where it is and I have other interests now and would like someone to take it over and finish it. There are boxes of parts that are not in the pictures.
