Vehicle Detail

1966 Chevelle 396 Super Sport ConvertibleINCLUDED IN BUY IT NOW PRICE - NEW PRO TOURING SUSPENSION PARTS WORTH $4000 Offered for sale is a Super Sport Chevelle that will appeal to the person who appreciate originality, but more importantly, a person who drives the cars he owns. This Chevelle Malibu SS convertible has been a work in progress for over 45 years with various modifications by a series of owners, one of whom retired this ragtop at 75,000 miles and held the car hostage in a garage for 25 years without advancing the odometer at all. During that time, the suspension was wholly rebuilt and the front disk brakes were upgraded. The L34 engine was disassembled and fully rebuilt, bored 0.030 over, fitted with a high performance camshaft, then topped an Edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 750 cfm carburetor, and old timey Cal Custom finned aluminum valve covers. This engine was first fired up two weeks ago and has less than 1 hour of run time – long enough to know it makes BIG power. It is superb. Likewise, the Powerglide transmission has been completely rebuilt and is better than new. The Powerglide behind this 360 horsepower 396 CID V8 gets instant acceleration and rockets this SS up to speed in a Chevy Heartbeat, before shifting into high gear for comfortable cruising at freeway speeds. The 12 bolt GM differential turns 3.31:1 gears and the car rides on new tires wrapped around Weld Draglite alloy rims. The Chevelle was completely redesigned in 1966 to look more like a scaled down version of the full size Chevys. The Super Sport concept no longer meant bucket seats and a bigger engine. Options were the order of the day, and you could order the SS models with a wide range of personalized choices. This car came with bench seats, power steering, power brakes, and optional power top. It also has power windows, an aftermarket Autosound AM/FM Radio with power antenna, and a custom wood grained steering wheel. The top operates perfectly as does everything else on this Chevelle. The car left the Fremont, Calilfornia assembly line wearing Marina Blue paint with the Bright Blue interior. Along the way, somebody decided that was TOO BLUE and it was repainted Provincial White. The paint and interior have not been refreshed in decades, but this car still has a great shine, and the vinyl seats remain in very serviceable condition. The carpets, door panels, and rear seat trim have been replaced and the top is free of any stains or discoloration. This is the kind of car you can drive just like it is, or, if gathering trophies is your bag, fresh paint and seat covers will make this SS Chevelle a trophy magnet. Don’t think about buying this car until you see and drive it to verify for yourself what a great Super Sport Chevelle this is. The VIN is 138676Z144XXX. Though it is priced like a clone, this is the real deal. Pound for pound, this muscular ragtop is more fun per mile than you can find anywhere. Thanks for looking!
