Vehicle Detail
1948 Ford F-1 Pickup Truck This is a very special little truck. It has about 5000-6000 miles on since it was restored as described below. It looks stock on the outside but has modern conveniences that make it a pleasure to drive and enjoy. It is in excellent condition and needs nothing other than someone to have fun with it like I have. I have another 25 photos that show more detail. 24 is all that will fit on EBay so if you want to see them send me your email address. This is a no reserve auction with an opening bid that is below what I consider it's fair market value. HISTORY This truck was restored between 1984-1985 by a close friend of mine that owns a high quality auto body shop. It had been a city truck that saw mostly town duty and was not a farm truck or a truck put together from a pile of pieces found here and there. It led a very easy life and I personally saw it before the restoration commenced. It was straight, almost dent free and had no rust at all. He restored it for his personal use but soon after its completion sold it to another friend of mine that hounded him until he sold it. It was driven sparingly (maybe 2000-3000 miles during those 5 years) until 1991 when my friend passed away. It sat in the family commerical shop until a few years ago when I purchased it from the estate. DETAILS A very nice running all original well maintained 1969 Chevrolet Impala donated the 350 V8 engine and TH350 transmission The engine was not rebuilt at that time. It was cleaned up and major gaskets replaced It has a 4 barrel Quadrajet carburator The transmission was sent out for a shift kit and it was gone through at that time. a Gennie Shifter was added. As I recall the original differential was replaced with an open drive shaft unit from a 1956 Ford Pickup The grille got NOS (not repro) stainless steel The truck was rewired. The parking lights are converted to turn signals. The stock front end was completely rebuilt along with the brakes The body was painted Porsche Guards Red In 1948 the bottom of Ford pickup beds were lined with steel not wood. I think this was the only year they did that. The bed was restored with the idea that it was to be actually be used not just looked at. The inside sides of the bed look pretty good and were straightened where dings would show on the outside. The bottom has a heavy rubber mat to protect the bottom and allow the bed to be used like it was intended. New glass and weatherstripping were installed. Inside the cab it got all new interior, seat covers, headliner, sun visors, etc, it looks beautiful inside. New bumpers front and back Chrome 15" wheels This was generally the extent of work that was done in 1984 and 1985. 1991 The second owner did nothing but drive it a few thousand miles until he died in 1991. At that time of the second owners death, his son drained the gas and ran the engine until it stopped. He disconnected the battery and drained the radiator and block. 2010 When I got the truck I replaced all the rubber items and cleaned up the fuel system and cooling system. I rebult the carburator, replaced the flexible rubber gas lines, replaced the fuel filter and installed a new fuel pump and K&N Air Filter. I replaced the radiator hoses, heater hoses and added an overflow tank. I replaced the stock distributor with a new HEI electronic unit and replaced the spark plugs and wires. I installed an Optima Red Top battery, battery disconnect and replaced all the battery cables. I installed new Ceramic Powder Coated Speedway Ramhorn Cast Iron Headers, head pipes and exhaust pipes I removed the old vacuum windshield wiper system and replaced it with a new electric windshield wiper unit with new motor, arms, wipers I installed a Classic Performance Parts Toyota Tacoma Power Steering Conversion Kit with a new (not rebuilt) steering Box I installed a Classic Performance Parts Power Disc Brake Kit with new rotors, calipers, flex hoses, master cylinder, power booster and proportioning valve I added a tonneau cover to the bed. Unlike most others, there are no holes drilled in the bed to support or operate the tonneau cover. It works well, looks great and is easily removed if you need to use the bed. I wanted to keep a truck-look so I added a Vintique 1940 Ford Deluxe 19" steering wheel. I added a Pioneer CD/MP3/IPod player with remote control in the glove box. I replaced the stock gauge cluster with a Dolphin housing, gauges and electronic sending units I added three-point seat belts I replaced the nearly new but 25 year old tires and shocks with new tires and gas shocks Finally, I added a pair of repro straight truck mirrors and chrome tail gate chains The paint job is a testiment to quality paint and preparation It is in outstanding condition with no peeling, no flaking and no rust bubbles There are a few nicks and a few scratches as shown in one of the photos If you look at the floor after parking for a few days you will find a drop or two of oil from the engine front main seal. I don't think it leaks any while driving, just parking. Nothing major but worth mentioning The rear bumper has some scuffs on each side. It looks like it was driven with the tail gate chains hanging down and as a result there are some scuffs on each side of the rear bumper as shown in one of the photos. The driver's side wing vent window has some delamination on the vertical edge. It is not noticable when the window is closed and I could not take a photo that would show it. This is the best written discription I can provide. It is possible that I missed something, and if so, it was not intentional.
