Vehicle Detail
1965 Pontiac Tempest Wagon - 4 Speed - only 90,183 miles!!! Here is my 1965 Pontiac Tempest Custom wagon powered by its original 326 V8 motor ....with a 4-speed manual trans. Under the hood is a pretty much stock engine with a Rebuilt correct 2 barrel carburetor. It starts easily and runs good with no taps or knocks motor is very smooth. The clutch grabs very good and the trans shifts nicely. It has a nice Hurst short-throw shifter. Its an original A/C car and still has the original compressor, 4 core radiator and factory HD metal fan shroud, but I have not tested the A/C since there is no belt but the compressor is not seized. This car was from VA and has remained in storage for many years. It hasnt been on the road since the early 90s. At that time the owner did some very nice upgrades such as: 1970 GTO Front disc brake conversion with dual reservoir master cylinder, Trans Am WS6 steering box and huge 1-3/16” front swaybar, new polyurethane control arm bushings and sway bar links, NEW stock replacement centerlink, idler arm and upper/lower ball joints. It hasnt been driven since so an alignment will most likely be in order. The body was painted in Satin Black paint (not primer) for that RatRod look but shows its age on the rear quarter lips and lower quarters. Not bad but worth mentioning. There is also rust on the left rear inner well. I also noticed that the spare tire well had been repaired at the very bottom on inside. Both fenders are very nice with no dents and the lower sections have no rust. Doors are just as nice. Car has a nice original “rust free” GTO hood with a scoop that has custom inserts installed (chrome teeth) ....very cool looking! ... (I also have a stock insert that can be swapped if its not to your taste) Both bumpers are nice and straight and shows well with very bright chrome. The original bodyside trim and emblems are in very good shape. The wheels are vintage 14" Astro Supremes with bullet caps. Tires have good tread and all hold air, but the sidewalls have some cracking from sitting, so they should be replaced at some point. I did a close inspection of the underside of the car, with the car on the ground, and the frame looks very solid with no signs of rust. The floors look pretty good for the most part, but I did notice a section starting to rust out a bit on the passenger side front. (not too bad) The car also has dual exhaust with a nice rumble. On to the interior, it looks like seats and door panels were redone back in the 80's and looks to be fairly presentable and would improve with a good cleaning. The seats look pretty good and have no rips or tears. Door panels and headliner are intact. The dashpad has cracks, but a repro pad is included (needs to be dyed). Carpets are old and discolored. The back seat folds flat and the rear part has some newer carpet. The tailgate has a power window and it works. The key for the doors was lost over the years, but I do have the Ignition/tailgate key. It has an old Superior 500 Metalflake steering wheel and a period correct Sun tach!!! Overall , this a very cool "47 year old" 4-speed Pontiac wagon and by no means is a showcar. It would need to be restored properly to be a showcar but was perfect for me as a "rat rod" wagon. With a few weekends of work, this could be back on the road and road worthy ... (depending on your skill level :) Most of it is normal old car issues. From what I can tell it will at least need: an alignment, better tires, normal maintenance stuff should be replaced ...(filters, fluids, hoses, belts, etc.) Also turn signals and heater/AC need some sorting out (possibly bulb or fuse issues?) ...just being honest ...so there are no surprises! Car also comes with a box of assorted spare parts, some door glass, and a good dashpad Again, this car has not been on the road in a long time so be realistic and dont expect to drive it home. However, It does run & drive and the brakes work, so it easily loaded. Factor in shipping cost BEFORE BIDDING. Any and all shipping arrangements and costs are the sole reponsiblilty of the buyer. The car is sold in as-is condition, needing some repair and/or restoration. There is no guarantees on a 47+ year old car. Local buyers are welcome to see the car in person, I just need some notice in advance as the car is located half hour away from me. Serious bidders only please. Also: I have a clear Virginia title with no leins ...signed by the former owner and will include a Bill of Sale as well. (I never had any issues with this, but some states require a Bill of Sale along with the title). Please note a small $300.00 deposit thru Paypal will be required after the auction to secure the car. The balance should be paid either in cash or a Bank of America cashier's check. The vehicle will only be release once payment clears. I expect the deposit within 48 hours and the balance within 7 days. Also the car should be picked up within 2 weeks.
