Vehicle Detail

1979 CJ-5. Jeep was restored in 1999 when there was about 72,000 miles on the Jeep and the bulk of the work was done then, there are currently 94,000 miles. Fiberglass body from 4WD Hardware- today’s version: http://www.4wd.com/search.aspx?kw=fiberglass Used frame from Florida that was chemically stripped, painted and internally rust proofed. Jasper remanufactured 258 cubic inch 6cyl engine. Tomco Carburetor Rebuilt Transfer Case 3 spd Manual Trans Bestop Top (plastic is clear, not all faded and cloudy) Bikini Top Bestop Seats (front high backs and flip rear) Power Brakes AMC 20 Rear Power Steering Emissions gear is present and hooked up Lots of Chrome parts Locking center console Locking Tuffy Box in engine bay Various other repairs and service over the years More recently: American Racing Aluminum Rims with 32X11.5 inch BFG AT’s with 60-70% tread remaing. Brand new spare tire with matching American Racing Rim. 2010 Kenwood HD Radio with IPOD hookup and controls with remote, Sony Amp powering a 4 speaker system, Blaupunkt Speakers, Bazooka bass tube. Tow bar for front bumper to tow behind another vehicle or RV. The fiberglass body is $2,000, the engine is $2,000, the frame was $500 and then all of the other stuff was couple hundred dollars here and there that adds up to a few thousand. I have a full binder showing all of the receipts of service and parts going back to 1988. The good thing is that this Jeep just starts up and goes. It really needs nothing to use right now. It has a stereo, speakers, center console, bikini top, little things that add up and before you know it you spent $500 to get the Jeep going. The Jasper engine with 20K miles is fresh and powerful, the 3 spd trans shifts smoothly and the 4WD engages well. All of the lights, turn signals, etc work. Even the gas gauge works sort of (it goes from ¼ of a tank to ¾ so you can know when you’re low on gas). The Jeep is entirely fiberglass except for the dash. I’ve owned a few CJ’s and after having one that was steel that had been sandblasted and repaired and then repainted only to have it rust 6 years later, I will only ever buy a fiberglass Jeep. They will all rust. Maybe if you buy one from Arizona and keep it there, but once it’s in the snow, salt, etc, it will rust. The dash has some rust forming around the bolts. You could either paint it and leave as is, or if you wanted to go crazy, replace the dash for a few hundred bucks with a new steel or fiberglass one. The Cons: The paint is decent, it’s 12 years old and it’s chipped here and there. You can see it in some of the pictures, it’s decent, but not a show paint job. If you plan to use as a daily driver, it looks good. The dash has those few rust spots as I mentioned earlier. The right rear chrome bumperette is pushed in a little. The shifter boots are ripped, but I'm including new ones in the sale. I have a few more pictures on flickr. There is also a video of the engine running. The sound is slightly off though, I think the fan is making the Jeep sound like it has a flowmaster exhaust, but it doesn’t, it’s not a loud Jeep, it just has a regular muffler. http://www.flickr.com/photos/86120648@N06/page3/ I just bought an old Corvette, so the Jeep is getting kicked out of the garage and I don’t want to leave it outside and watch it get weathered, so I’m selling. Thanks-Keith
