Vehicle Detail

1948 Packard Victoria Super Convertible Phone Jeff @ 417-343-4747 to discuss Johnny Singer’s 1948 Packard Victoria Super Convertible Johnny Singer was the “Dean of the Big Bands” in Cleveland, Ohio as well as Eric Singer's dad. Eric played in his father's band in his younger years. Johnny Singer purchased the car new and drove it up until about 1956. From that point it was parked in his garage until after his death in 2006. When I purchased the car the odometer displayed 50 more miles than the '56 oil change decal that is still in the drivers door jamb. Johnny Singer was a favorite of President Jimmy Carter and of Prince Ferdinand of Prussia. In 1937 Johnny joined the Hal Smith orchestra at Sun Valley, Idaho, a popular resort for Hollywood celebrities. His friends there included Bing Crosby, Cary Cooper, Norma Shearer and Ernest Hemingway. He made a number of trips back to Europe to visit his friend, Prince Ferdinand, at his 400-room castle in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1980, Johnny played at a event for Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan and the next night for President Carter. After Johnny passed away the Packard was inherited by Eric. Eric is a well know musician himself. He has played drums for Alice Cooper and currently is the drummer for KISS. The original engine was in poor condition and I re-powered the car with a Chevrolet 307 V8 and Powerglide from a '69 Chevelle. I installed a new brake master cylinder, steel lines, hoses and rebuilt the wheel cylinders, cleaned the fuel tank, converted to 12 volts, had the interior re-upholstered using leather instead of vinyl. I used the original column shifter to connect to the powerglide in order to keep an original appearance in the interior. All of the original gauges are functioning except for the ammeter that I didn't connect. I even repaired the clock. I have the top frame disassemble ready to sandblast and paint (I already have the proper color paint for it). Included is a brand new navy blue cloth top. I was planning on painting the car coronet blue and already sandblasted and painted the dash. Johnny had the car painted green at some point, the original color was black. I removed the original hydraulic pump and planned to use a top pump from an Olds Cutlass that I purchased. I was planning on converting the window hydraulics to used linear motors instead of the complicated hydraulic rams. The car is pretty solid except for some rust in the right hand rocker and a couple of spots on the rear quarters. There is a little rust in the drivers side floor pan and under the rear seat (not bad). The car still retains all of the original suspension with a couple inches of lowering. I also installed NOS Air Lift air bags in the front springs and air shocks in the rear. The car rides and drives beautifully. The wipers are not functioning and need to be repaired, but pretty much everything else operates. I removed the heater and have a new Southern Air Heat/AC unit that is included that will require installation and the purchase of a condenser, compressor, dryer, and hose kit to complete. The engine already has a Sanden AC compressor mount installed. It is a cool car with very interesting ownership history.
