Vehicle Detail
1990 Volvo 740 with Converse Engineering V8 conversion (the same guy that built V8 Volvo's for Paul Newman and David Letterman). The engine is a 5.0 V8 from a Mercury Mountaineer attached to a Ford Racing T5 heavy duty 5 speed manual transmission which was new when installed. Approximately 220hp and 300 lb-ft of torque in a 3100 lb car. Obviously the car does not have the original 2.3L turbo but eBay won't let me exclude that from the listing description. The rear end is Dana 30 (stock Volvo) with a Tru Trac limited slip (torsen type) differential. The bushings are all urethane from IPD. Rear springs are upgraded also by IPD. Has an adjustable track bar for the rear axle. Lower stress bar in the front. Front camber plates. Full dual exhaust with H pipe and Walker Dynomax Ultra mufflers which really sound great without being obnoxious. Everything works (AC, cruise control, etc) with the exception of the following items: rear window defogger does not work, ignition key has a bit of play but it's easy to work around, tach does not work but could be fixed, and radio only works if the headlights are on (also an easy fix). The body is straight and has no rust but has been hit and repaired twice. One collision with a deer that resulted in new grill, hood, and fender all from a donor Volvo. The second a rear hit while stopped in traffic that resulted in the right rear fender being pulled out and repaired. It's not perfect but the flaws are not obvious to the casual observer. The engine had only 18,000 miles when installed, I have the paper for that. It's at about 80,000 now and the transmission is at about 62,000. I have always used synthetic oil on 3000 mile change interval. The engine does not burn any oil and runs great. Car comes with the original rear springs alternate rear shocks and a set of Volvo wheels, great for winter tires which are essential if you plan to drive this in the snow. Inspection sticker is current and the car easily passes emissions. 20+ MPG on the highway and high teens for mixed driving. This was my daily driver for several years with snow tires in the winter and then was used to tow go karts around on the weekends. It's really fun but also reasonably practical which is why I built it in the first place. Look up sleeper in the dictionary and you should find a picture of this car. The interior is non-smoking and in good condition. The drivers seat was reupholstered in grey Acura leather which is a good match for the rest of the interior. My garage has filled up so this one must go.
