Vehicle Detail
Yes!! This is a no reserve good 'ol fashion heads up auction. Please don't ask me what the reserve is. Winner takes all!! Up on the auction block is my 1955 1st series 3100 Chevy pickup. This thing gets more attention than a 5 car pile-up during rush hour. I really hate to get rid of this one, but it's on to the next project. I know I listed it as a 1954 because there are people out there that don't know there were two different body styles in '55. The only difference to my knowledge between the '54 and '55 is that you can remove the drive shaft out of a '55 and the '54 is a torque tube rear end. This truck is mostly original, but the following changes have been made: Converted to a 12 volt alternator instead of a generator Wiring updated to modern plastic covered wire instead of cloth wound Battery mounted under the hood ( original cover is still in place on the floor) Redesigned column shifter linkage (to eliminate binding) Steering wheel is off of '53-54 Chevy car Wheels changed to 15" Lowered approximately 3" all around Mechanically it is in great shape now with the following work performed: Professionally rebuilt, numbers matching 235 C.I.D engine with hardened exhaust seats and new valves for running unleaded gas Rebuilt 3spd Muncie SM318 transmission Rebuilt hydraulic brake parts Cleaned and repaired factory gauges For all you techie guys like me here is a more detailed list of work done Freshly built long block engine: Hot tanked All oil galley plugs removed and brushed out Freeze plugs replaced with stainless Bore punched out .040 Crank turned .020/.020 All bearing surfaced plasti-gauged All rings and piston checked for proper gap and skirt clearance New master engine kit Cylinder head rebuilt including: Hardened exhaust seats New valves Guides Surfaced Umbrella seals on intake valves 3 angle valve job Rockers and shaft disassembled, cleaned and polished Bare minimum amount of RTV sealer used Copper coated head gasket surfaces Complete tune up Freshly built transmisson: Complete dissassembly and cleaned All needle bearings and roller bearings replaced All gaskets, seals and thrust washers replaced Repaired shift forks retainer plate Brakes: All 4 wheel cylinders replaced Rebuilt master cylinder Flushed all fluids Repacked wheel bearings and replaced seals Adjusted all 4 drums Brake shoes are at 75% of new Gauges: Ran new copper oil line from engine to gauges Rewound and wired fuel gauge Dissassebled speedometer head and lubed Misc. Lubed chassis including steering, king pins, u-joints and rear axle Repaired door hinge pins Cleaned radiator Replaced taillamps All lights work and wipers work good This thing is a kick to drive especially since the bugs have been worked out of the shifter. I haven't seen a spot of oil leak out of the engine or trans since all the work has been done. I only have about 25 miles on the truck so far since the engine and trans have been rebuilt!! It runs very well and starts right up. The steering seems to be pretty smooth and pretty easy to turn. I am advertising this as a rat rod, so please don't expect a trailer show queen. This thing was made to drive and have fun with, but could easily be restored too. With that being said here are some non show queen characteristics of this truck. Yes!! There is rust. It wouldn't be a rat without a little rust. It's not bad and most of it has been fixed. The remaining areas of rust is: Some in the cab corners, some in the running boards, some in the cab under the fenders and a little in the bottom of one of the front fenders. Yes I know the wheels are 2 different colors. I couldn't decide which color I like better so the winner of the auction can pick their favorite and I will make them match. Yes I realize the back window is missing. I didn't get it in time, but a new one will be in it before the truck is delivered The paint looks good in the photos but don't be deceived. The pictures make it look good. I have completly redone the driver's rear fender because it was it such bad shape but the rest is pretty oxidized and not the best quality. On the positive side, there really isn't much plastic filler so it wouldn't be much of a project to repaint. There is also only one layer of paint on it making it fairly easy to strip. Parts missing include: Heater (I can get a used one for around $100) Sunvisors ($80.00 from LMC) Headliner ($40.00 from LMC) Side door window weatherstrip ($80.00 for the kit) I will be happy to replace all of these parts to whomever is the winner of the truck as long as they pay for the parts cost. I do classic Chevrolet restoration full time and would be happy to discuss the cost of me finishing the restoration or custom work. You can see the quality of my paint work and I take pride in everything I do. I have 20+ years of engine building and mechanic experience. I also have 8+ years of auto body and fabrication work experience from mild to complete frame off's. No, I am not interested in trading for your 1978 Pinto station wagon, sorry. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to trade trucks to the utility companies and the grocery stores yet, so cash is king here. Please ask questions before bidding, but please don't wait until the final hour or the auction to do so. Thank you for looking and good luck with your bidding. On Sep-22-12 at 10:13:19 PDT, seller added the following information: AS SOME OF YOU HAVE NOTICED, THE TOP BIDDER DROPPED OUT ON THURSDAY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS A SCAM THAT SOME BIDDERS USE ON NO RESERVE AUCTIONS TO DRIVE THE PRICE DOWN. THEY HAVE A FRIEND DRIVE THE BID UP FAST AND HIGH TO SCARE OFF POTENTIAL BIDDERS. THEN THEY HAVE THEIR FRIEND BACK OUT FOR NO REASON MAKING COMPETING BIDDERS THINK THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE HIGH BIDDER WHO BACKED OUT OF MY AUCTION ON THURSDAY CLAIMED THE REASON FOR RETRACTING HIS BID WAS THAT I NEVER RESPONDED TO ANY OF HIS MESSAGES. !!! FOR THE RECORD, I DID NOT RECIEVE A SINGLE MESSAGE FROM THIS USER !!! IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS USER WAS TRYING TO PULL SOME TYPE OF SCAM AND I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO EBAY. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY TRUCK AND IF THERE ARE ANY ISSUES, I THINK I DESCRIBED THEM PRETTY WELL ON THE AUCTION. I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE AND I WANT TO CONTINUE TO KEEP MY 100% RATING AS I DEPEND ON IT TO MAKE MY LIVING. THANK YOU TO THE REST OF THE HONEST PEOPLE BIDDING ON MY TRUCK. On Sep-22-12 at 10:29:00 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention in the original listing that the tires are in great shape still and have about 80% of the tread left on them. All 4 transmission mounts, the thermostat, and radiator cap were replaced too. This week I have been putting the finishing touches on it. I have replaced the pigtail plug to the dimmer switch on the floor. I also noticed the charging system was having a problem keeping up when the headlights were on so I installed a freshly rebuilt 12V 3 wire style alternator and removed the old style external regulator. I also installed a charge / idiot light on the dash to warn if the alternator quits charging. It puts out a steady 13.9 volts now which is where it should be. I installed a small aftermarket style water temp gauge on the bottom of the dash to have a more accurate view of the actual temp. The engine has been staying right around 190 degrees F, which is perfect.
