Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on my 1958 Plymouth Belvedere two door hardtop. I have owned this car for 17 years and purchased it from the estate of the original owner. To stop her from driving, her family had built a wall behind the car in her basement garage. It stayed there for 20 years and was removed after her death. I then became the second owner. I have kept the car in as original and correct condition as possible. It was painted in the original Torreador red lacquer following minor body restoration. The stainless was polished and the bumpers were rechromed. The interior is original except for the carpets which are like the originals. The engine has never had work other than normal oil changes and tuneups. Five Coker wide whitewall tires were mounted and remain in very good condition. The car runs and drives very well and always draws attention wherever it goes. It is similar to Christine in the Stephen King movie. Some people think the movie cars were Furys, but they were Belvederes. The Fury did not come in any color except beige (buckskin) with gold trim in 1958. My car has been a pleasure to own, and I will be happy to keep it if it doesn't sell. It has never been offered for sale since I have owned it. It has always been garaged and is never driven in wet conditions. It has been used twice on stage in public television Doo Wop specials and has been featured in the Plymouth Owners Club magazine. I have taken it to shows and cruises, and it is well known in this area. I do not really consider it a show car, but it has won over 60 trophies and awards and people just seem to like it. It is not perfect, but is very nice and very original. It has two things that should be corrected, but I haven't seen the need to do them. The gas gauge isn't working and probably needs a new sending unit. I should have replaced it when the tank was cleaned and sealed. The other issue is that the valve stem seals should be replaced because there is some smoke for a short time when the engine is started after sitting. I have the new seals and valve cover gaskets, but haven't changed them because the problem just hasn't been serious. The car always starts and runs fine. Feel free to ask questions. The car is also available for inspection, and I would encourage this. I don't want to misrepresent the car, and I want the buyer to be happy with it. I can be reached at (618)684-3707-days, (618)426-3449, or (618)559-7374. The winning bidder will pay a $200 deposit within 48 hours of the auction end with the balance due when the car is picked up. I'll be happy to assist the buyer in any way I can, but pickup and transportation is the buyer's responsibility.
