LRA ENTERPRISES PRESENTS....... 1962 Ford Falcon The “Falcon” name of the Ford Motor Company was first used in 1935 when Edsel Ford had designed a more luxurious car. But as the cars from the fifties where becoming more and more expensive to build because of wage increases and a growing economy the “Big Three” had to start focusing on building more economical cars. What pushed this decision was the growing popularity of our small import cars, mainly the Volkswagen Beetle. So Robert McNamara, a general manager of Ford, started and sponsored the development of the Ford Falcon. This car was to be by American standards a small car, but around the world it was considered to be a mid-size car. McNamara insisted on keeping the cost and weight of the Falcon as low as possible. Engineers came up with a car with a unibody design capable of seating 6 people. And using a lot of suspension parts from the Ford parts bin kept the cost down as well. And by 1960 the first generation Ford Falcon was introduced. Please read on about this solid, original 1962 Ford Falcon. Exterior: As you can see from the pictures, the car presents very well for being almost all original. As far as we can tell, this Falcon has one repaint and was done some time ago. Also, this falcon has all its original body panels and all floors and trunk pan are solid and original. The unibody construction is all original and is very solid and in excellent condition. The bumpers are original and very shiny. They do show minor hazing but in amazing shape for it’s age. Also has all the original glass that is also in excellent condition. All lights and marker lights work along with wipers. This car is a great original driver, surviving the elements for over 50 years and presents extremely well. Please expect flaws and blemishes because this car has never been restored. Please look at the pictures and let us know of any questions. Interior: As you can see from the pictures the interior presents very well for its age. The original seats were recovered at some point and still present very well as was the carpet and sun visors. The door panels, dash and headliner are all original and you can see in the pictures there condition. The interior dome light even works!! The original radio has been removed but the dash hasn’t been altered in any way. All dash instruments work properly. The interior can be left alone because its more then functional, however, it’s a great base for restoration because its complete. Please look at the pictures and let us know of any questions you may have. Drivetrain: For the drivetrain, it’s the original 144CID, 2.4L Straight 6 with 3 on the tree with 110k original miles. Thats only 2200 miles a year! The only upgrade on the vehicle is an electric fuel pump. The engine itself is original and runs great. The clutch engages nice and shifts through all 3 gears as it should, even reverse. All the belts and hoses are road worthy as the tires are fairly new. The brakes all function properly and work great. This is a true turnkey drivetrain. Its unrestored and virtually the way it was built 50 years ago. In Summation: Just wanted to ad that this car is mostly original. Do not expect perfection because its not here. Expect flaws and blemishes and please do not expect a show car. This car captures the essence of Detroit rolling with the ever changing demands of American culture and economical needs, this Falcon says it all and 50 years later is still running and doing all the things it was intended to do.
