Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1997 Honda Accord SE, AT, 2.2 L, AC, FWD, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, tilt wheel, Sun roof, CD player, dual airbags, cruise control, decent tires, red exterior, grey interior (in decent shape), with about 175,000 miles. I am only the second owner of this car. The first owner kept all maintenance records and the car has had regular oil changes in the two years that I have had it and the air filter was just replaced a few months ago. This car has quite a bit of pep for its age, gets great gas mileage, does not use oil, blows cold in the summer (although out of freon now), warm in the winter, is good in the snow, and is just overall fun to drive. The paint is a little worn but decent for being a '97. This car has been driven to California, Daytona, and Canada and back and has never given me a minute's trouble. I bought this car as a graduation gift for my son. He is now joining the military and I just do not have a need for this vehicle any longer. And now for the negative (there's only one!). The car needs transmission work. At this point, the car will move in the drive gears but will not go in reverse. I have priced used transmissions and you're looking at about $400 for one with less than 60,000 miles. I firmly believe this car will go another 100,000 miles or more with proper maintenance. I didn't get the car inspected as we thought my son would be leaving for the military several months ago and I was planning on selling it then. Before you speak to your mechanic about how much it will cost to rebuild this one, be aware that I have talked to a gentleman who worked at Cottman for 20 years and he said it is much cheaper to buy a used one than to have an old one rebuilt. As you can see, this car gets a very high rating on MSN autos. 1997 HONDA ACCORD RELIABILITY RATINGCategory CommentsEngine Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Transmission & Driveline Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Steering & Suspension Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Brakes Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Heating & Air Conditioning Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Starting & Charging Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Accessories Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs.Overall 5 out of 5The Kelley Blue Book value on this car in fair condition is $2500 ("fair" condition on KBB takes transmission issue into consideration).
