Vehicle Detail

1971 GMC Suburban 1500 3 door. NO RESERVE! Great looking, great driving driver quality truck. Runs and Drives Excellent. 2WD 1/2 ton Rear Leaf Spring (factory option)Tailgate w/ Hatch. 20" wheels in the pics are not included (stock wheels included) This is an extremely reliable driver quality vehicle that I have enjoyed for several years and taken on many cross country road trips including Hot Rod Power Tour. However, I currently have too many old cars, and too many projects, so it's time for it to move on to another good home. Overall it's a super fun & reliable great driver, that would need some bodywork if you wanted to restore it to as new condition. Truck is lowered 2" with lowering kit from Early Classics, dropped front spindles with matching springs and shocks for proper suspension geometry. All stock suspension parts are included for new owner to raise truck to stock ride height if desired. Clean Title. Contact: Please call Ian with questions (330) 607-2693 Additional Photos @ 200 photos of this 1971 GMC Suburban Please note: I WILL KEEP THE 20" WHEELS, the wheels are not included with this auction. Winning bidder gets the truck with the stock 1971 GMC wheels & hubcaps. Also included are all the suspension components required to return the truck to the stock ride height if desired. Drivetrain - Rebuilt 350 V8 professionally rebuilt and installed at 154,000 miles Starts, Runs, Drives, Shifts great. Carries great oil pressure, and always runs cool, even in heavy traffic with trailer. 3.73 rear end, great for towing, can easily tow a car trailer. Mild cam with great sounding 3" Flowmaster style dual exhaust, the sound of it idling or pulling away from a light definently makes everybody smile. Doesn't leak or smoke. Wouldn't hestitate to drive it to California tomorrow. Previous owner said the transmission was new or rebuilt as well, but I don't have any paperwork on that. Transmission shifts as it should. Runs and Drives Excellent. Mileage - It is unknown if truck has 101,000 miles or 210,000. All the paperwork for the mechanical work would indicate only 101,000. The odometer only goes up to 100k so it's anyones guess. The tracked down the previous owner from the late 1990s in Washington state and he said at that time the odometer said 50,000 but the Washington state title said "beyond mechanical limits" so from that conversation I guessed 210,000 would be possible too. I wouldn't let the mileage bother you because all the powertrain is much newer, and the front end suspension is really tight and has a lot of new parts as well. Body - The truck is from Washington state up from new through 2002, then Arizona, then Indiana and Ohio. Driver quality paint job from 1999. Shiny and glossy and waxes up nice, but there are scratches and it's not perfect by any means. Rust areas are as follows. Rust area located in front of passenger side rear wheel arch (please see pics) Paint beginning to crack behind passenger side rear wheel. On passenger side rear door, there is a rusted through area on the underside of the door itself (please see pics) . Some paint bubbling underneath the paint beginning on bottom of tailgate. Some paint bubbles on bottom of lift gate. Paint bubbling up around drivers side rear wheel arch and rust area behind drivers side rear wheel arch. Please see pics. Bubbling up under paint on leading edge of drivers side door. Rust through area on inner fender liner of passenger side front fender liner (please see pics) (not fender itself) Floors are solid. Some metal cracking on liftgate, please see pics. Because oversized trailer mirrors were mounted at some time by some previous owner, there are 3 extra holes in the drivers and passengers front doors. These trailer mirrors are included with the auction. Underside Photos - Rockers, Rear Quarters, Floors to view @ Underside Gallery Photo Link Suspension - This truck tracks great and rides great thanks to being lowered properly with a kit from Early Classics. Dropped Front Spindles with matching springs and shocks in the front, and matching lower leaf spring setup in the rear. In addition there are air shocks in the rear that can use to adjust ride height for towing using an air compressor. Electrical - Headlights, turn signals work as they should. Dash lights work, but don't seem as bright as they should be, I don't think every bulb back behind the dash is operational. Heater does not work, but blower motor turns on for heater and defroster as it should. Cigarette lighter is working to power a GPS or charge a cell phone etc. Truck also has a Draw Tight electrical brake setup for towing trailers with brakes. Trailer wiring is fixed and is working since last listing on ebay. New 2 speed Windshield Wiper motor. All gauges work, oil pressure, temperature, charging, gas gauge, speedometer. Interior - Front Seat has a seat cover on it, and the seat upholstery is pretty worn out on it. It's a black vinyl seat, looks to be correct for the truck and is black. Rear seat is black vinyl as well and is much better shape. However it does have a 3" cut in the back facing the trunk. (please see pics) Interior vinyl door panels are all there but a bit raggedy on the lower edge on the drivers door and rear door passenger side. Original rubber floot mat is intact for rear passenger compartment. Black carpeting is the pics is not original GM but fits good. One crack in steering wheel case behind horn button. Two cracks in the steering wheel rim. Truck is missing the headliner. (please see pics) Glass- Glass is all good, only flaw is a small stone chip in the windshield. Rubber - Missing door rubber on front passenger door. Door rubber on rear passenger door is all floppy at the bottom. Good factory glass weatherstripping. Chrome - Chrome is all original and is not great but not bad, and seems to be all there. Bumpers are nice. Chrome is burnt through by sun on some parts of the grille and the headlight buckets are starting to rust because of that (please see pics) Gas Tank - Gas tank is I think aftermarket custom steel 50 gallon unit, nicely made, steel, very heavy duty looking. Hitch - Heavy duty, reese style. Circular style electrical hookup for trailer, but is not currently wired up. Brakes - Trucks stops as it should, mechanic installed new brakes in Spring '11. Factory front discs, and rear drums. Cooling - New Radiator, and transmission cooler Summer '10. New water pump Summer '09. All systems good here, I've never seen the needle move past normal, even when towing. Wheels and Tires - Winning bidder will get the stock 1971 GMC Wheels & Tires w/ hubcaps. I am keeping the 20" aluminum wheels for another project. Tires on the stock wheels that the winning bidder will get are almost new. Issues - The lack of door rubber on front passenger side door. Drivers side front door does not lock with a key. Recent New Parts - Brakes Spring '11 New Radiator, and transmission cooler Summer '10. New water pump Summer '09. Rebuilt starter Summer '09. Exhaust manifold Summer '11, Windshield Wiper Motor Spring '12 Vehicle History - Truck was sold new in Seattle, Washington and the original GM Protect-O-Plate is intact in the owners manual. The truck stayed in Washington state until 2002, recieved some bodywork in 1999 with a fresh paint job, according to a previous owner I called. It recieved the rebuilt engine in 2002, by it's next owner who moved to Arizona. A GMC truck enthusiast brought it up from Arizona to Indiana sometime after that and I bought it off ebay from him several years ago, and that pretty much all I know. Driving Experience - Truck is a lot of fun to drive, with great power and tracks straight and true on the highway. I have taking it on many interstate trips including Hot Rod Power Tour and have driven it from Ohio to Northern Ontario Canada, and Ohio to Wisconsin and between Cleveland and Chicago on several occassions. I have also used it for towing, for which it is quite capable. The previous owner would use it to tow his '67 GMC show truck to shows.
