NO RESERVE AUCTION!! $1.00 Starting Bid!! 1986 Mercedes 560SL Convertible Clean! Powerful and Fast, 5.6L V8 256k miles showing, but the odometer is not working anymore I am running this auction on behalf of my dad, because he does not use the internet. This car belongs to his small car dealership, but being a collector car, it is way too nice to be sold with his normal inventory. As is listed above, this is a NO RESERVE auction, so this car will go to the highest bidder. This is a 1986 Mercedes 560sl convertible. I would say that it is in original condition, and is above average condition for the age and mileage. It is not perfect, but is perfectly capable of being driven daily as it is, or would make an excellent base to start from for a person that wants to restore one of these cars to “showroom condition.” The floors are solid, and I don't really see any rust on it, except for a little bit of surface rust on the underbody. The oil pressure is great (gauge stays on 3 when the engine is running), the transmission shifts normally, the convertible roof looks like it was replaced within the past 3 years and is easy to retract and stow under the rear panel. The 5.6 liter Mercedes V8 engine pushes you back in the driver's seat. All of the lights, power windows, power locks, heater, etc. work. It has cruise control. This car still has its factory 1st Aid kit behind the seat, and it appears to be unused! It also has its tool kit in the trunk with the spare. The interior is pretty clean as well. Being 26 years old, this car qualifies for historic status – meaning cheap registration and insurance! Currently, I am driving this car back and forth to work, and enjoying every minute of it! I am not a lead-foot, but this car is powerful and fast! Even though the top is manual, it only takes a minute to put it down, which I have done regularly in this weather. You cannot find a better drop-top cruiser for summer. Exclusive, german engineering and reliability, with a smooth ride, ample power, and beautiful classic styling. I regularly get compliments on it from people at work, and even people sitting next to me at stoplights roll down their windows and comment on it! It is a great car to drive. As with any car of this age, it does have a few minor faults. The paint is oxidized in some places. A professional wax / buffing job might bring it back to life a little bit. There are also a few little dings and scratches here and there, but once again, this is a 26 year old car, so that is expected. The engine could use a tune-up. It runs a little rough when you first start it up. This improves once the engine is warm, but there is still the occasional miss when idling. A new set of spark plugs, spark plug wires, dustributor cap and rotor will probably fix this, and it looks like these items are all available on RockAuto. The two rear side windows each have a spot that needs to be re-stitched. The leather seats are worn (not ripped). The power antenna does not go up and down. The A/C blows warm air, so needs a charge. There are a couple of cracks in the dash. The SRS light is on, which could mean that the airbag or airbag sensor needs to be checked, or that a sensor for one of the seatbelt buckles has gone bad / come unplugged. Also, there is a little bit of play in the steering, so it probably needs new tie rods. Overall, nothing serious for a car of this age. I have not had any problems driving this car to and from work, and around my local area but I have never taken it on a long road trip, so for long-distance bidders, I would recommend trailering the car home if you want to play it safe – it is a 26 year old classic car. PLEASE READ: Bidders with zero or negative feedback, and overseas bidders, must contact me prior to bidding – I will delete your bids otherwise. This car is sold AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. Please examine the supersized photos, and contact me if you have any questions. Serious bidders are welcome to come see the car, just give me notice ahead of time so I can adjust my schedule. Since this car is being sold by a dealership, if the buyer has a valid driver's license and proof of insurance, a 2-month temp. tag can be supplied at an additional cost of $35. Maryland Residents: This car is not MD-state inspected. It is over 20 years old, so if the buyer is a MD resident, the car will be sold as historic. This car is owned by Chesaco Car Company, a MD car dealership, so if the buyer is a MD resident, then the State of MD requires that my dad collect a tax of 6% of the sale price. Also, for MD residents the MVA requires that the title be processed through the MVA, at a cost of $100, which will be added to the auction price. These costs are imposed on MD residents by the government - not my dad! They do not apply if the winning bidder is not a Maryland resident. Payment is to be made in CASH at pick-up. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The car must be picked up within 1 week of the end of the auction.
