For sale is a 1986 Volkswagen Golf, VIN # 1VWFA0170GV079635. It has a 1.8L 4cyl engine, 5 speed manual transmission, 161092 miles on it, and a clear title. This is a 4-door body style with a fully functional sun roof and hatchback. The transmission was rebuilt in 2005, with a new clutch installed, and had only a few hundred miles put on it since then. The interior is still in reasonably good condition, though the upholstery of the front seats was beginning to wear, and protected from further destruction by the seat covers shown in the pictures. All 4 tires have been holding pressure for years, and still retain a safe amount of tread. 1 of the 4 hubcaps is missing. This vehicle has spent 10 of the last 13 years in hot and dry Arizona, so while there is a little rust, there is certainly nothing extreme. The paint, on the other hand, has suffered under the unrelenting Arizona sun, and is beginning to peel on the roof. The engine turns over easily, and was getting 25-30mpg when I last drove it. Which brings us to the real problem with this vehicle… This car has been parked since 2006, when it developed a problem with the fuel system. The fuel pump and fuel relay were replaced, but still the system would not maintain adequate pressure. I suspect it is the control pressure regulator, a $200 part on the front of the engine, that has gone bad. This issue with the fuel system is, to the best of my knowledge, the only thing barring this vehicle from being driven. It does have some other issues, however. The vacuum module for the cruise control is shot, so the cruise control will not work till it is replaced. The air conditioning does not work, and I never tried to get it to work. Everything is there, and nothing seems to be broken, so it may just need a new charge put into it. The radio still works, but the cassette deck no longer functions. The hydraulic supports on the rear hatch are shot, a stick will be included in the sale for propping the hatch open while in use. The windshield is cracked, as seen in the pictures. The bottoms of the door panels are all slightly warped, which was they way they were when I purchased the vehicle. This is a used vehicle, and may have some other issues I am not aware of.
