Vehicle Detail
Selling my Viper Red 1965 Mustang because my wife now considers her as my mistress. She’d rather I spend my money on Diamonds and flowers for her, rather than parts for the Mustang.Vin: 5F07C660467 Originally this car came with a 289, but was upgraded to a 302 (I did not do this upgrade). The engine is from a ‘74 Maverick and I was told by the previous owner that it has hardened seats. I ran the car on unleaded gas with no problem. It is a 4 speed top loader transmission with Hurst shifter. The brakes are four wheel drum. In my opinion the engine needs to be rebuilt.I purchased this Mustang last August and installed the following NEW items (spent over $1,700):Clutch4 Core Aluminum Radiator - Upper and lower radiator hosesSteering LinkageElectronic DistributorEdelbrock Manifold (#2121) Oil PanOil Pump and Pickup screenFront ShocksFront 1” Sway BarThermostat Speedometer CableTailhousing seal (drain and replace transmission fluid)Valve Cover GasketsParking Brake CablesValve Stem SealsDrivers and Passenger side mirror (Installed after pictures were taken)I have these **new** parts but have not yet installed them (valued over $500):Front Suspension Kit with Springs Rear Sway Bar - 3/4" Timing ChainWater Pump As you can see in the last two pictures (This is the current state of the car), I have the valve covers off, Oil Pan, Radiator, Distributor, Water Pump and Timing chin out of the car. This engine is about 15 minutes away from being pulled so if you have a cherry picker this will be a breeze to take out. The engine was running great and started up without any issues, however, I lost oil pressure and after replacing the oil pump, we had oil pressure for a short time, then lost it again. I removed the rod connectors to look at the rod bearings and found some wear, so the next step is a re-build. I did buy new bearings and will let you have them if you want to try installing them, however, in my opinion, you would be better off rebuilding the engine.I did prime the new oil pump and made sure oil was flowing from the valve pushrods to the rocker arms, so the engine was running with proper lubrication, however I was also hearing a tapping noise which I'm thinking might be from the loss of oil pressure to the rocker arms...just a guess at this point. Also, when I purchased the car, the previous owner stated it had hardened seats, and I have been running unleaded from the gas station without any issues. I did not do the last rebuild and am going off of what was disclosed to me.The only other items that would need work is the driver’s side window rolls up to about ½ inch from the top, and the brakes need to be adjusted, as they pull to the left when you press hard on them and it will need an alignment since the steering linkage was replaced with a new one.Bottom line is this great looking car, with a recently new paint job that shines like it came off the lot yesterday. The seats and floors are new as well. The cherry bombs sound like a like a muscle car and causes heads to turn! The gears are not sloppy, with the toploader shifting easy and the new clutch is nice and smooth (although still have to use a good amount of pressure, since this is not power assist). The doors close with no problems and the hood is flush with the quarter panels. If you are comfortable with rebuilding a 302, you can get this purring in no time. With as much as has gone into this car, it is a steal at this price. I just don’t have the time or money to complete the work that needs to be done, so my loss, your gain. For $1,600 you could have this engine completely rebuilt and running like new. With the reserve set at $5,500, that would be $7,100 for a beautiful, perfect running '65 Mustang with new paint and interior under 2 years old, and most everything else under the hood being brand new. This is a steal, I just went over my budget a long time ago and have to make the hard choice to sell rather than let this sit in my garage for another year before I can start work on it again. This is for local pickup only in Simi Valley, California and will require a flatbed or trailer to transport. There is a $100 Deposit due at the end of auction and final payment must be made via Cashier’s check with cleared funds before the title is released. If you have any questions, please ask, and I will answer to the best of my ability. Thanks for looking and good luck!
