Vehicle Detail
1929 Ford Model A Tudor VIN: A1008545 This car was originally owned by Raymond Niehuus of Montana/Texas. He died of a heart attack last year, but boy he led one hell of a life. You can read about him here: http://www.dailyinterlake.com/community/obituaries/article_a8342bd2-2b2c-11e0-9065-001cc4c03286.html Raymond bought this car in Montana in the early 1960s (two of them actually), and he restored them to original condition, reusing many of the original parts on the car to keep that ‘feel’. Once it was completed, he finished school and moved away from Montana, but he had kept the Model A in an airport hangar at a small private airport. Doing this has preserved this car very well – it has no rust, it has most of its original wiring, the body is in excellent shape, and the interior is mostly original. When he would return to see his family, he would drive it around Montana. In 2007, he brought the car from Montana to his ranch in Texas where he had intended on restoring it again. However, he died in early 2011 of a heart attack and never got to the project. It didn’t need much to get it running – the fuel tank was cleaned, the carburetor was rebuilt, the wheel bearings and seals were redone, the wheels were painted, a new battery installed, and a tune-up was done for the ignition. It starts right up on the first try and settles to an idle quickly. It doesn’t smoke (either at startup or when under acceleration) and, it drives great – it tracks straight and brakes straight. Obviously, it’s not a 1929 factory color, but I believe the color to be from 1963 to 1965 or so and it’s a Ford Peacock Blue. The paint has a fantastic patina. No major rust in the body, some surface rust on the frame (see pics). The wood floors are in excellent condition and the interior is original. The lights work, the horn works, the gauges work (except the speedo). On the downside, it has a small oil leak (surprise!), the speedometer is broken, the spare tire is missing, the fuel petcock drips a bit when in shutoff, and there’s a very old crack on the windshield. The car is located on the west side of Houston, and I do have a clear Texas title with Raymond Niehuus as the previous owner.
