It was the  fastest Oldsmobile on the new car lot in 1962 and, the  most expensive. This particular Starfire is  unusually powerful and drives practically like a new  car. It was built the last week of May, 1962 at  the historic Oldsmobile plant in Lansing, Michigan.   All side glass and the rear window are correctly dated  April or May and the original drive train even has its  original starter, dated May 3, 1962. A 50 year old  car with its original starter is an amazing thing, while  also making it easy to believe the 101,500 miles are for  real. If you've read this far, you know why  all '62 Starfires are special but what makes this  Starfire unique is its incredible condition, inside and  out. It's had a re-paint some time ago that looks  absolutely glass smooth and the rarely seen original  cloth top still looks terrific. Exterior chrome is  knockout, the stainless is beautiful and die-cast is  good. These were quality cars when new and the  quality can still be seen here with great panel  alignment, perfectly functioning doors, hood and trunk  and bright, crystal clear lenses on all lights. A  top dollar car in top survivor condition. But the best news has to be how this  baby cruises. It is no exaggeration to say  this Starfire will humble many supposedly "fast" modern  cars. This is one seriously powerful  Oldsmobile and it tracks arrow straight, steers nicely  and stops sure and smooth. The reason for all this  excellence, of course is that the hard work and expense  of steering and suspension repair has already been done  . . . . . . not only  that; bulbs are nearly all new, whatever bad switches  there were are new and basically, anything a 100,000  mile car needs to function as new as possible has been  attended to. The engine starts immediately, the  transmission shifts great and this 50 year old Olds is  ready for a trip across the country or a shiny cruise  down main street . . . . . . if that  cruise involves warm and/or hot weather, your  Oldsmobile has factory air conditioning and it blows ice  cold. Would you expect anything less from a top retail  classic? Check out the trunk  lid fit and how perfectly the chrome trim lines up.   The twin exhaust is newer and sounds great. By the  way; all Starfires had "color matched" trunks. Power steering and  power brakes make this rocket a breeze to drive. The  cloth top is original and is in superb condition. The windows glide  up and down easily, the doors are firm and secure and the  Wedgewood Mist paint looks spectacular. You can pay  small and buy a car that breaks and cost more money  later . . . or, you can step up and buy a top vehicle and  avoid the headache.                         This is what makes  a Starfire really special. Leather was standard  and there's enough chrome, stainless and aluminum trim to  build an airplane and all of it in this Starfire  looks awesome.                         Carpet,  upholstery, door panels, headliner - it's all good and  it's all beautiful. The factory air  works great and the radio comes on and you can hear it  faintly but not well. Starfire  graphics on dash and bright roof bows were part of the  interior gingerbread.                                                 A tachometer  was standard (This one works  when it feels like it, but not consistently, two hours  in the shop to diagnose & we still couldn't figure it  out.) The original comes with the car.                         Undercarriage is  beautifully presented.
