Vehicle Detail

Up for Sale: 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible. 89,000 actual miles, I found this car in a barn and have gone over it. Floor pans (passenger, driver, behind back seat) are solid, frame front and rear are solid, sequential lights works perfect, vacum headlights work great, the top goes up and down perfectly with no issues (top frame is perfect and the inspector tag is still present and legible) however the top itself needs to be replaced. The interior is incredible for a 42 year old car..rim blow horn works great, center console is in great shape with the 3speed on the floor. It has all the XR7 gauges and they work great except for the clock..it works when it wants to.Everything on the car is as factory as can be expected with minor wear parts replaced. This is a numbers matching car with the tags still on the major components (motor, trans, rear, distributor, carb) I am the third owner of the car and mileage and ownership can be verified through DMV. I have the original owners manuel, with a copy of the title when he gave it to his son (1/18/79) with the miles documented and my title stating actual miles, the condition of the car (underside, body panels) is a dead give away it has not been abused. Factory XR7 hub caps,Factory Philco radio, etc..Factory dual exhaust (mufflers (flow tech turbo) and tailpipes were custom bent by Mitchum Enterprises and installed by me. New brakes on all 4 corners, new KYB shocks on all 4 corners, new sequential box and upgraded flashers, new tires, new light bulbs as needed. The clutch is probably factory as well and it shifts smoothly and drives great. Many of these cars have been re-sprayed the wrong color some go white..some go yellow..and some follow the paint codes and end up with a ugly too much green color..as I am sure it has been re-sprayed..from the door jambs and inside trunk.. it is obvious someone spent the time to match exactly what rolled out of the Ford company in '69..the paint has some flaws, but they are cheap fixes (some chips and slight bubbling at the bottom of the doors) I have owned a few Cougars in my time, but I have never owned one this clean and solid..it is almost a completely original car. The man I bought it from got it for his wife in the early 80's and she didn't have the leg power to work the clutch so he parked it..and there it sat until I purchased the car 30 years later. I have gone over the car and only replaced what needed to be in an attempt to keep it as absolutely stock as possible. I have the factory boot cover that came with the car and the factory carry bag as well. 4024 convertible Cougars were produced in '69 and when you add in the XR7 option that number falls.. and with the 3speed manuel on the floor the number produced drops even further (I have never seen one before.. as the XR7 was the luxury option and in most cases had the FMX auto). This car is an extremely easy resto to show or just a super nice car to have fun in..it turn's heads wherever I go and makes for lengthy conversations with everyone that sees it it seems. I have put the reserve way under book value and way under what my mechanic suggested. I have had the car for about 2 years and just don't have the time to complete her perfectly..so I'm looking for a good home for her . Thanks for looking and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Thank You. RESERVE HAS BEEN LOWERED. On Jun-19-12 at 15:52:01 PDT, seller added the following information: There is a $1,000 deposit due within 24hrs of sale that is not refundable. On Jun-20-12 at 14:53:45 PDT, seller added the following information: I reserve the right to end this auction early because the car is for sale locally. On Jun-21-12 at 21:55:00 PDT, seller added the following information: On Jun-26-12 at 18:32:23 PDT, seller added the following information: On Jun-27-12 at 19:06:32 PDT, seller added the following information: I spoke with Ken today from Ken's Cougars..he told me my car is very rare and some motor parts were 1 year only parts ( Pulley's etc..). I realize with the current administration people don't have money to spend..I am going to take this auction down on Saturday (6/30/12) if the reserve has not been met..put a new top on it for $1,5034 knock out a few extremely minor things that bug me and put it back up once obammy is out and people have money again instead of just the government having money.I appreciate all the bid's from everyone who bid and I will let you guy's know when I relist, but I refuse to give this awesome, rare car away. When the economy takes an upturn I believe I could get a fair price. Thank you again for your bids. On Jun-30-12 at 18:47:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I was looking at the other Cougar XR7 convertible on here and got some very helpful information from his MARTI deluxe report..There were 1000,085 Cougars made in 1969 of them 4,024 were XR7 convertibles ..2197 of those had a 351w 2bbl motor..of those 2097 had automatic transmission..that means only 190 XR7 convertibles were standard shift, 3 and 4 speed alike..no telling how many 351w,2bbl,3speed,XR7 convertibles are left..I'm thinking very few..The reserve has been met!! GOOD LUCK!!
