Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1971 Olds Cutlass. The Cutlass cars have been becoming very popular recently. There are more and more showing up at the more popular, big name classic car auctions. As you can see by the license plate it is a 442 WNAB, or 442 Want to Be! This Cutlass gets a lot of attention, thumbs up, etc from people looking at the car. It is a great conversation piece. Slight modifications have been tastefully done and can be changed back quite easily. It "made the shirt" at the 18th Annual Tucson Oldsmobile car show by popular selection, see pic. Hopefully the pics of this car will speak for themselves. There has been a lot of time, money and many new parts put into this car. I have receipts for over $18,350 plus on work that has been done to the car and the cost of the parts I bought and installed. This does not count the $2900 I originally paid for the car. I do have the receipts for just about every item and service work done on the car. I will have a list at the end of the description that breaks down all of the new parts that were installed. I have owned the car almost 4 years. When I bought the car it had 146,200 and now only has 147,389. Basically I have only driven the car about 300 miles per year. FYI, I have the collectors car insurance on the car through State Farm, which allows up to 1000 miles per year and costs $62.50 every 6 months. These rates might be for Arizona only but gives you a ballpark figure. The car has been repainted the original color, Saturn Gold Metallic color, and is accented with black rally stripes on the trunk and also on the 442 fiberglass aftermarket hood. The paint is an excellent ten footer and at five feet it still looks great, the few imperfections are hard to see and are mostly at the bottom of the car. There are a couple of places where the paint has started to check but are very hard to see. The hood has a place that could be worked out, I included a pic of it, but is still hard to see. The black vinyl top is in excellent condition, the car always stays in the garage. Since the car is always in the garage I never bought the plastic pieces so the doors can be locked. Some of the highlights on the outside of the car are the 15 x 7 Rally wheels, BFG Radial TA's on front and rear. Sizes are P245/60R 15'' tires on the front and P275/60R 15'' tires on the rear. This gives it a healthy looking stance. The spare tire is also on a 15 x 7 rally wheel with center cap, trim ring and bezels. I have installed a pair of Rally mirrors that I bought and restored ( drivers side mirror has some scratches), along with dual exhaust with Flow Master 40 mufflers (great sounding) and with chrome trumpet tip extensions that fit right in the rear bumper specially made with "knockouts" for the trumpet tips. The exhaust system was a great addition to the car and sounds super. Originally I had the front bumper re-chromed but they were extremely late on delivery and when I got it they had done a terrible job not worthy of putting back on the car. I sold it and bought a new front bumper which was a lot nicer than the one I sold. On the undercarriage I spent 2 months underneath the car on my back scrapping, sanding, and wire brushing to prep for painting underneath of the car. I used Eastwood primer and the Eastwood Chassis Black 70% gloss to spray underneath. The AC blows cold, but blows on the floor. I have included the ductwork that needs installed so the air will blow out of the vents. Never really mattered to me, I would drive it with the widows down and the AC on. I had a Sony AM/FM single CD player installed with Jensen 6 x 9 Triaxel speakers (old school stuff). I did not cut the dash but made two inserts our of metaI that covers the original round holes. I bought a pair of special kick panels that had 6'' round Pioneer speakers housed in the kick panels, see pic. The windows were also tinted but there are some tears on the tint. The rear windows would not roll up and down so I replaced the rollers and now they work(man what a job that was). During this process the tint was scraped up a little. It is hard to see the bad places from outside the car but are visible from the inside. This Cutlass runs and drives great. The car does not have any leaks and the bottom is drier than a popcorn fart in a whirlwind! The engine and transmission run very strong. The horn does not work. The car is relative rust free. There is a support bracket that has some pitting but it is not that bad. If I had not mentioned it it probablyy could not be found. I had two 1970 Cutlass's back in high school in the late 70's. I have been looking to buy another for the last 10 or so years. They were pretty expensive even for a fixer upper so I kept looking and until I found this Cutlass. Needless it looked pretty rough but if you looked past alot of issues it was a solid car. I will include a pic of the car when I bought it. I have spent $4097 with Original Parts Group, $2643 with Fusick Automotive Parts, and $279 from Year 1. I have also spent $1967 on auto repairs. If you are interested in seeing what mechanical work has been done to the car send me you email address and I will send the receipts to you which includes parts and labor. I was going to break out the list but too many little part listed. I scanned the original invoices into a file so it will be easy to send out. The dash is cracked out but I have a nice cover over it. Cost for exhaust, Stereo, new rebuilt carb, etc was $3902. Parts from misc vendors totaled $3170 and $456 was spent at Eastwood. I did misplace some receipts but the parts installed on the car are pretty obvious: 442 ram air fiberglass hood, trumpet exhaust tips, front windshield, front bumper, reupholstered rear seat, trunk trim and newer upgraded "OLDSMOBILE" trunk trim piece. I kept a log of all parts plus the cost that I received. Cost for these items $1836. Basically the sum of the cost of the car is $2900 plus $18,350 invested for a total cost of $21,250. However this does not include the many hundreds of hours of my time plus many dollars of the nickel and dime items that you need. I know that I will never get near the money I have in it but it is a good opportunity for someone to buy, fix the few items that need completed and have a very nice car with a minimal investment! The title is a clear Arizona Box C title. Receipts will be included in the sale. To basically sum up the car, if it is not new it looks new. A couple of other items is that the clock does not work and the front seat is out of a different year Oldsmobile, but stills fits nicely. I like it because it has the drop down arm rest in the center. I have most likely left out an item or two and will update the auction as necessary. Lots of good things on this car with very little to finish up. A deposit of $1000 will need be sent within 48 hours via Paypal and is non refundable. If not using Paypal then mail a certified check to me but you will need to let me know which method you use. Balance of funds besides the deposit are due within 7 days after the auction ending date. Funds will need to clear the bank before the car is released. Of course cash is king. I will try to post a video on youTube so you can hear the car run and I can do a walk around the car video taping. Also if you want a certain pic or pics of the car let me know and I will send them to you. Sorry this is so long, but I do not see how some people can list an item with a short paragraph with a few typed lines. If you have any questions you can email me or call me at 1-520-280-9123 for more information. On Jun-12-12 at 11:38:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Looks like the list of new parts got jumbled up. I have broke the different groups into a single line by line item to make it easier to read. It orginally took the listing broke out by groups, do not what happened, sorry about that. I have installed 4 new ones on the car.On Jun-17-12 at 07:05:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I got a couple emails from people wanting to talk to me about the car and asking me for my phone number. The number is listed in the description, last sentence. I got an email from a ebayer asking why the torque convertor dust cover that is missing. I never paid any attention, but have had some work done on the car. I will get with the mechanic shop tomorrow and see it they removed it and did not put it back on. I changed the oil yesterday and put a new filter on. I had a of question on the box c title. The person who sold the car to the guy I bought it from guessed at the mile and was a few hundred off. The person I bought the car from corrected it and because there was a discrimination it was marked as not actual miles. I believe it to be actual. I just took the car out for my last drive. Still gets a lot of attention even early in the morning, (it is 7am in Tucson right now). Please keep in mind that I can send you the receipts from the mechanic work that was done on the car.I scanned them into a file.
