Vehicle Detail

1965 Mustang Fastback GT350 clone I hate to part with my baby but I have another need for some money and this is on the market now. I have owned her for several years with the only issue I have had is the battery dying and the starter going out when I first purchased the car and both were replaced. Let get to the description. When I bought the car the individual I bought her from said that this car was originally owned by a Ford dealer's son and back in the day there was a program called "build your own Shelby". I have never heard of it and not sure how to validate it but other people I have run across have told me it did exist. The original owner bought several Shelby items and put them on this car (there again this is what I was told) and they remain there today. They are the door sills, rims, and gas cap that I can see. I am not a car historian and I bought the car just on the shape, beauty and overall condition of this beautiful car, so unless you know more about it than I do (which wouldn't take much) I would buy it on that premise. The body:The car has undergone a restoration and the paint job is that of extreme quality but is older and has caught a few stone chips along the way. The shine and luster of this paint is incredible and pictures do not do it justice. The car sits in my garage always covered 24/7 unless I am taking it for a quick spin which I like to do once every couple months to keep fresh gas and keep the battery charged. I have not seen any rust anywhere on the car and believe it to have spent her entire life here in California. The engine & drivetrain:The engine is believed to be a 302 as that is what myself and the guy I purchased the car from was told. It has an electronic ignition and headers, and I still have the original distributor I believe somewhere and will go with the car if you so desire (if I can find it). It does not have power brakes or power steering and that are the two things I wanted to do if I was able to keep her. The car has front disk brakes though and adding a booster would be pretty simple. The headers have a small exhaust leak somewhere and I am not sure if it is the flange or what, never bothered me that much so I let it go. Just want to disclose everything I can. The car has a C4 automatic and that drips a couple drops every time I take out. It has never leaked enough to even require me to add fluid in the years of owning her, so that tells you how much of a leak it is. The Interior:The interior is black and in extremely good shape. Now to the part of the car I do not really care for. The other owner converted the instrument panel to a wood dash. The padding is black and in great shape but where the gauges, radio, etc are is wood (look at picture). A couple of the gauges do not work but the speedometer, gas, water temp, vacuum, charging do. I know the tachometer and I think one or two others do not work. Any way, why they did this I am not certain and I always wanted to change it back to stock. Now the fine print:The car is being sold as is and locally as well, so if I sell it outright I will cancel the auction. $1000 non refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Please ask all questions before committing to buy. Thank you and good luck! On Jun-11-12 at 11:23:40 PDT, seller added the following information: I have uploaded 4 pictures of the underside of the car. I was also able to see where the exhaust leak is and am going to try to get this simple item fixed so that should be done as well. With regards to the leak, it looked be be coming from the shift linkage seal which is no biggy to fix if you were so inclined, like I said it didn't leak that much for me to worry about it. That hose you see hanging down in one of the underside pics is the vacuum modulator hose and I would think there would be a better way to get that more sanitary looking but since I had to take this to a shop trying to pinpoint the leak I couldn't spend any time under there tidying things up. So we found the leak, I took the pics and I was off (man it was fun getting all the thumbs up and rubber neckers as I was going down the road today, I am really going to miss her). Hope this helps for all you that have requested these pictures. If you are want and are able to I would be able to schedule an inspection prior to the end of this auction, so if you like to, that option is on the table. Also remember this is a car that is 47 years old and doesn't drive or handle like a new car. I know all you car buffs know what I am referring to, but someone that has never owned one might not completely understand this is a classic muscle car not a new sports car. With that being said, I have described this car the best I can and wish all of you watching this car the best of luck with the auction!
