Up for auction is a 1997 E320 parts car. The title has been scrapped due to the insurance company claiming that it was a total loss because of the accident it was involved in. I purchased the car back from the insurance company because there are plenty of good parts left on the car. Being a mechanic, I was either going to fix the car, or use the engine and transmission out of this one to put into another vehicle. However, I just have too little time to do anything with the car. Instead of letting it sit any longer, I just need to do something with it. The 1997 E320 engine was the last year of the straight six cylinder engines that Mercedes used them. The car has approximately 160,000 miles on it. The Accident: The damage to the car is to the left side. The impact was basically in the two doors. Therefore, all of the valuable parts are still intact. Nothing under the hood was hurt. The engine still runs great. It does not use oil. The transmission pulls great. No slippage, no hesitation during shifts. The accident happened on February 9th 2012. The car has been parked and has sit ever since and has been under an industrial tarp. There has been no moisture damage or any other damage to the vehicle from it sitting. The car will start, roll, and drive. However, the fuel pump safety cut off switch was tripped in the accident. From what I have read in the service manuals, this is not a resettable unit. You have to replace it. So I bypassed the safety switch via a jumper wire which enabled the car to start and run. I parked the car where it is currently sitting, however, due to the impact damage, the linkage in the shifter is binding and it will not go up into the park and hit the safety switch for the engine to be restarted or to get the key out. I have not looked at the car since I had it started. It should not be a big deal to get it started to prove that it runs and that the transmission is mechanically sound. The car was in excellent shape before the accident. The interior and exterior were in excellent shape for a vehicle of its age. It was very well maintained. Being a mechanic myself, I took care of all of the maintenance. For someone who had the time and the knowledge, this would be an easy car to fix. The two left side doors and a few pulls on a rack and the car would be in pretty good shape. Mercedes parts are very expensive and this would be a great parts car for someone who owns an E320. Again, that is why I kept the vehicle. However, I wound up buying an M class model for my wife instead. I am setting the reserve price for what I paid the insurance company for the car, which is well below what the car is worth. Any questions, email me and I will get back to you as quickly as I can. Obviously the car will have to be towed to your destination. I can assist in loading, and it may be possible to drive the car up onto a trailer. After the auction is over with, I will store the car at its current location for a reasonable amount of time for you to coordinate the pick up as long as the car has been paid for or we have come to some other agreement via email or telephone conversation.
