1981 DeLorean DMC 12, one of the last 500 built in 81, has the one piece front hood without the gas flap, retains the separate digital clock on the center console.This is a dead straight car with original brushed finish which will be an easy restoration, it has been sitting in a collection since 1996, the previous owner had a massive warehouse where he kept many diverse cars including this DMC12. It has always been a California car and the original blue plates are supplied with the car, but as it has been off the road for such a long time it has been given current CA white plates, it is currently registered with a clean and clear California title but not tagged for the road. At some point in the past a previous owner spent quite some money performing a Twin Turbo charger conversion and never finished the exhaust system, at the same time the water pump and twin cooling fans were replaced as were the anti sway bar bushings. I fitted new plugs and put in fresh fuel and have started it by wiring the fuel pump directly and using a can of fuel,it runs well, there's no smoke and it makes no undue noise, the motor sounds really strong. I would recommend that the gas tank be drained properly, it also needs the rubber gasket which fits around the fuel pump replacing. The mileage is recorded at 33k miles and I am told by the previous owner that this is correct, it is the manual transmission model and it does select its gears fine and moves back and forwards, the brakes work but I have not been able to road test it, I would advise flushing the braking system.The exterior is as expected brushed stainless steel and in very good condition save for some minor dents on the passenger door forward frame.There is absolutely no rust anywhere on the chassis, it has lived in a dry climate its entire life and as been stored in a dry warehouse in Northern California since 96.I can find absolutely no accident damage anywhere, the interior needs work, the seats need recovering and the inner door top panels and headliner need redoing or replacing. The dashboard binnacle has cracks running front to rear. The electric windows work as do the stereo, wipers, signals and horn.I do have the original air cleaner and the original stainless steel exhaust muffler and sundry original exhaust pipes, these will be supplied with the car, also there are several DeLorean factory style repair or other manuals also included.The jack is in its original bag but the spare wheel and tools are missing.Please note that this car is sold in California with a title only, no smog certificate will be provided, its sold as a restoration project.If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 925 580 1947Any inspection at my premises is welcome before auctions end, payment must be made within seven days of auctions end.
